If you see my sig Corporal kaufer was a scout sniper best shooter in his battalion i barely knew him because i had started dating his sister while he was away i knew him a little from school but thats it. Its amazing how fast you pickup respect and care for someone you barely know and it tore me up when he past away it was so hard watching my girlfriend and her family mourn i mean i came home that night and just lost it i barely knew him but i knew how good of a person he was and how much he loved his family. and it was just painful to think about and its been 8 months and i still think about it and it still get to me sometimes

My father was in the British Royal Air Force for about 10 years; I have uncles that are Brigadier colonels and Generals in an Army...many of whom have had very close calls on their lives; their kids and family live with the daily threat of assassinations. Everyday we live in fear of the worst case scenarios.

I was brought up around M60 tripod machine guns and smoke grenades.... as I grew up, military life was highly romanticized. At the wedding of one of my uncles, instead of lighting the traditional fire crackers, there was RPG rounds sent out.

I understand the loyalty and pride that goes along with service in the armed forces; however, I believe this is more a result of propaganda. I once myself wanted to be a fighter pilot, but this was because I wanted to feel the pride that went along with this position, and not because I wanted to kill some people. I do believe that the majority join the forces with good intensions—whether it is to “keep peace,”“spread freedom” or to serve one’s country, all of which are creditable objectives. However, by the end of the day, the armed forces are a killing machine, and I can't wait till the day when we don't need such primitive means of resolve.

For those whose lives have been affected by the military—whether directly or indirectly—I commend your bravery, appreciate your loyalty, and wish for your safety.

Please excuse the above pouring out…I just had to get that out.

            here...u may think this is soft...but I don't care.

            UNIVERSAL SOLDIER
            By Buffy Sainte-Marie

He's five feet two and he's six feet four
He fights with missiles and with spears
            He's all of 31 and he's only 17
He's been a soldier for a thousand years

            He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an athiest, a Jain,
a Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew
and he knows he shouldn't kill
and he knows he always will
kill you for me my friend and me for you

            And he's fighting for Canada,
            he's fighting for France,
            he's fighting for the USA,
and he's fighting for the Russians
            and he's fighting for Japan,
and he thinks we'll put an end to war this way

            And he's fighting for Democracy
            and fighting for the Reds
He says it's for the peace of all
He's the one who must decide
who's to live and who's to die
and he never sees the writing on the walls

But without him how would Hitler have
            condemned him at Dachau
Without him Caesar would have stood alone
He's the one who gives his body
as a weapon to a war
and without him all this killing can't go on

He's the universal soldier and he
            really is to blame
His orders come from far away no more
They come from him, and you, and me
            and brothers can't you see
this is not the way we put an end to war.
            DEVOTE

Father is active duty Army 18 years..first time getting "deployed" to a combat area was in 04 when we came to Ft. Stewart...anybody that knows anything about Ft. Stewart GA knows that EVERYONE goes to Iraq..he is going back again around April..have 2 cousins and 1 uncle in the navy, 1 cousin in the marines and a shitload of my friends in the Army and Air Force. And Ralphie is right. the soldiers get somewhat accustomed to the lifestyle but it hits the families HARD..especially growing up a military brat everyone you know is associated with the military and you never know what can happen. I pray that everyone comes back safe to their families and loved ones
