Help Stop The Site From Crashing So Much!!!!

Ok, a while back Mr. Deev posted something about people using a non-server friendly web accelerator (some firefox thing). That might not be the only reason why its crashing so much, IMO. However, we as a community need to do as much as we can to keep this forum from becoming like the other Accord forums. Friendly Browser programs FTW!!!

Anyone have any suggestions on whatelse we can do or what can be done???

Hmm maybe mods can go through old threads and delete aged reposted threads that contain no use? Dunno if deleting some of those threads might help but its a suggestion. Just delete a couple a day or somethin.

Well, one way to slow down the traffic IMMENSELY... is to make the forums private, and make people sign up to view any threads.

I'm willing to bet the majority of the database errors are caused by DDoS or other sorts of automated malicious attacks.

shut up maple, just because he's not a contributing member dosent mean you have to criticize him for giving his opinion.

No, the errors we have been getting are all the same "MySQL, error: 0" which is a MySQL connection error. this COULD be because of increased traffic, but i REALLY dont think it is. the server is still running MySQL 4.0, where MySQL 5.0 has ben a stable release for years. the same goes for PHP. both are far out of date on our server, and i believe that could be a big part of the problem, possibly combined with the increased traffic.

the server we have is just fine. for a site that has this much traffic, its actually pretty stable.

So are you saying we should not use firefox?

No, just don't use FasterFox on this site.

Making the site private can cut down the traffic, but at the same time.... . If Deev wanted the site private, he would have already done so. Keeping it public also gives the average browser a good reason to join. At least it did so for me a couple years back.

Software updates cost money...maybe we can do somekind of donation drive? Anything to avoid this site from become like most of the other Accord sites.

MySQL and PHP are both free, open source software
