Convince them to go used and get a low mileage TSX 6-sp.

          IS300 runs an inline 6 not a V.

i'm now looking and highly considering a Mazda3. it's about 21k for the touring package and all the shit i want on it.
it's about 2900 lbs 156 hp stock. not too horrible. not amazing.
it's about the best thing i could find for my money that is new...

why are older cars better? wtf?

You said 15-20K, then you say the Mazdaspeed 3. Those aren't going to be gotten for 20K most likely.

For 20K with your preferred requirements, cheap to fix, fast, reliable, brand new, you are probably looking at a Civic Si. You can choose 2 or 4 door.

Or, if you are looking at the Mazdaspeed 3, and can actually swing it, you may also want to consider a WRX or even an Accord V6 6 speed. Again you can choose 2 or 4 door. You can also talk them down to a point where you would be with the Mazdaspeed.

It won't be as overtly sporty, but it will just about as quick, it will be reliable and cheap to fix (not fixing it at all is as cheap as it gets), it will will be a shitload more luxurious, and will be much more comfortable.

Oh yeah. It will get equal or better MPG than a CB7.

They aren't the lookiest cars, but it is worth a shop.
