    Illegal?

So last night we had a little party here, alot of people went on my computer. I keep a keylogger on my computer, so now I have everyones password that used my PC. Now i'm not a dick, I won't go around messing with anyones accounts. I'm just curious what sort of laws follow this?

Then I had this either good, or really stupid idea. To use peoples myspace accounts and spread my keylogger file to all there friends by posting bulletins on their accounts. Then all the info would be uploaded to my FTP server, giving me more information. I wouldn't be in it for money or anything really, mainly just for amusement to see how many I can get. I'm just wondering if this is illegal or not, what the odds of getting caught are, and what sort of consequences I would face. I researched this on google but didn't get alot of information. I'm an honest guy and don't believe in theft, cause I know from personal experience how much it sucks.

    Thanks

I'd be on the safe side and not mess with anything like that unless you're 200% sure you know what you're getting into.

Yeah, untill you find out how many you can get, then it turns from amusement to doing it for wrong reasons.

Just wondering, Why the hell do you have a keylogger on your comp anyways???

Damn hackers make me sick, you all should burn.

There are two ways to look at it. One, it's invasion of privacy. Two, they're using your equipment, therefore any information they provide is willingly given.

Still, I'd steer clear. Just knowing the information may not be bad, but when might you use it? If you DO use it, you could have some trouble. Is it worth ANY amount of trouble to do this? Even if legal action isn't taken, what about losing friendships, making potentially dangerous (or at least annoying) enemies, or causing accidental harm to someone else?
What happens when you're drunk one night and think it'd be funny to try to pick up a 12 year old girl using your friend's myspace account... Next thing you know, your friend gets investigated by the police for being a predator. Then what do you do? If you come clean, you risk getting investigated yourself, and your friend (and all his friends) will probably make your life a living hell for a long time. Or, you keep your mouth shut and watch your friend get labeled as a sex offender for the rest of his life. People get killed for that sort of thing.

Yeah. Not worth it. (and for those saying "hacker"... hardly. that's not hacking.)

Also, where the hell have you been? I doubt ANY of the people who replied here even remember who the hell you are! Are you back for good now?

Do they have to know? They're using his equipment to enter personal information. Having that willingly supplied information isn't necessarily illegal. Using it would be.

As for the critics, there is a note on my computer saying all activities are monitored...why do i have a keylogger? because its my damn computer, if they don't like it they don't have to use it. Regardless, quoting deevergot, it is MY equipment, they wouldn't even have to know. I was just asking a question, odds are I wasn't going to spread the file, I do still keep the logger on my computer for security purposes(lots of people use my computer). I don't use any of the information I obtain illegally or even immorally. I'm not a hacker, nor do I want to be, or claim to be.

Deevergote - I was moving alot, after the breakup with my ex, took me a while to get on my feet, was drinking alot and hit rockbottom. Now I got my own apartment, good job, start college in 2 weeks. I'm back for good just havent been postin much...i've been lurking around though. I lack the cb7 cause I wrecked it drinking and driving about 6 months ago. I'll have another soon though, i get sad everytime I see one, I miss it. I don't normally drink and drive, I was going through some shit though back then.

                        Thanks
