Sadly, that's the reason why the "crew" threads were deleted... (there's a sticky on it...) We had crews representing pretty much every race, and some dumbass decided to spout some idiotic stuff... so it was gone. Now we have it again. Not so bad, but bad enough... "I live in the hood, so you know what I'm surrounded by" has to be the dumbest statement I've heard all day. I can walk through Philly into a number of "hoods". Some are mostly black, some hispanic, some Irish, some Chinese, some Jewish... what sort of ignorant statement is that?
I do understand the point of the thread though. sulimed is banned for 3 days (I'm being generous... any question of it and it's permanent). The thread may continue until further assenine comments are made. The person that causes this thread to be deleted will be permanently banned... I'm sick of the disrespect.
On topic, there are actually quite a few African American CB7 tuners that are quite respected on here. uncle_el, h22sparkle, Accord SiR, kamaccord, and MRX to name a few (there are many more... those are just the first 5 off the top of my head).
I've noticed that you pay attention to the ethnicity of a tuner with a poorly-done car when they're different from you. A white guy might say "this hispanic guy had a multicolored body kit, steelies, and a fart can". But if the driver was also white, the observer would probably leave ethnicity out of the description... it just doesn't stand out. I can think of plenty of people of different races with totally different styles, talents, and levels of skill and knowledge among the population here.

And yeah... "African American" is a term white people came up with to try to avoid overly-sensitive black people. Still, it's respectful, and starting a conversation using that term at least shows an effort to not offend. If someone calls me white, I don't correct them by saying "caucasian". Honestly, I have no idea what the hell caucasian means!
But whatever... keep it respectful and I don't mind. Cross the line (MY line, not what you determine to be ok) and you're gone for good. I don't care who it is (and yes, I WILL ban someone for tossing around slang terms for their own race... that's even worse, IMO.)

when i was younger i always thought "Caucasians" were some kind of asian (Cuac-asian). I figured it out one day when our teacher gave us some form to fill out and we had to mark what our ethnic background was. i asked her what to write down if we were "white".

i was gonna say that about the race being important in the statement...Its like, "this black/mexican/chinese (etc) guy ran me off the road today, but if he were white, it wouldnt be mentioned. But, yeah, i didnt know mrx was black..thats awesome. Its just diversity...and i, as human being, like seeing it. And since cars are my life, diversity makes the whole thing better and more fun. Like i said, its just what we need.

It is pretty cool seeing how diverse the whole tuner scene can be. Honestly, I have hispanic and asian friends that I can't identify with on many things... except cars. Their family traditions are very different from mine (especially those who are first generation... or even immigrants themselves). I go to their house and see things I never saw before... decor, food, just the way things are arranged... those things differ greatly from one ethnicity to another. Superficial, meaningless things in the big picture, but still different. But once I get under the hood, we're the same. It's a cool thing.
