I may never see my CB7 again

Alright...I think everyone has had a bitching/venting thread at one point or another, so now its my turn.

I bought a 93 EX 5spd from a friend about 6 months ago, actually I traded him for my 90 LX 5spd. I had always wanted an EX 5spd, and my buddy really liked the maroon interior on my 90, so thats why we traded. The only problem with the 93 was the paint was faded pretty badly. So as part of the deal, my buddy agreed to pay for the car to be repainted before I took delivery. He has a neighbor who works at a body shop, and this guy was gonna do the work. He's charging my buddy $300 to paint the entire car. I'm not talking about that cheap ass enamel paint you get at Maaco. He is doing a full basecoat/clearcoat job color matched to the OEM Bordeaux Red.

Well, this guy has had my car for almost 6 months now, and its still not done!!!! Now I understand its a side-job and he can only really work on it in his spare time...but I mean come on...6 months? My friend has already put 15K on that 90 I gave him, yet I still havn't even ever driven the 93! He is almost as jerked off about this as I am, especially since it was his idea to have this guy do the work. Niether one of us have had any luck leaning on this dude to get it done.

My probelm is, I really want my car...but who knows when this guy will ever get it finished. I could take it somewhere else, but then I have to pay for it, and it would surely cost upwards of $1000. What would y'all do...stick it out and wait around for the freebie paint job...or bite the bullet and pay to have it done somewhere else?

Well that depends, did he not even start on yours yet? If not then yes take it somewhere else to get it painted and have your friend get his $300 back to help pay for it. But if its already started then maybe wait it out?

I thought it got stolen or something lol.
PM me if you found this!!

I would just get the car and tell the guy to let you know when he's ready...if he doesn't want to do it that way then just take it and deal with the paint as is until you get the money to get it done. waiting that long without your car isn't worth nice paint in my opinion.

That is absolutely insane.... A repaint over a DECENT car, even with prep could be done inside a handful of solid days of hard work. Wtf.... Even if you just break down the hours, you're looking at probably under 100 hours to repaint an already straight car.

          Get your car back....

yeah if you cant wait any longer and he still hasn't done anything to the car then just get it back, and just save up the money and paint it later, is that your only car?

in the past 6 months from all the money you've saved up from not having to buy gas and maintenance/parts/upgrades, you could probably have enough for a decent paint job.

Seems to me like paying less justifies laziness and a don't-give-a-fuck-attitude. Yes you are paying less but is it really worth waiting that long?! Time is money my friend.

I got my ride professionally done. We're talking the whole nine yards here. They did full body work totalling up to 6 coats of primer. Paint was sprayed evenly and no overspray with OEM bordeaux red. They even wetsand and buff for you. This took about 1 month give or take a week. Keep in mind they deal with MANY cars and still got mine done somehow. The work is also guaranteed for 25 years. Now you tell me, is 6 times the wait worth it? I'd save up and just get it over with.

Agreed. This is why paying a low price still doesn't justify no work being done for months: whether it's all done a few days or a few months, the same number of hours have to go into it.

Dude is putting it off because he isn't motivated enough. Rushing him won't work, as you've discovered.

He agreed but he shouldn't have, so get it back and no hard feelings hopefully. Just tell him you understand your car isn't his priority, but that you need it back and would be happy to take it back without the paint job. Surely he could understand that.

Is that the silver one you replaced the front end on? Its STILL not done? Go retrieve it. Hell, its your car and obviously he has no intention of getting the work done.
