Looks like I'm getting another job... lots of driving... Time to get a beater!

I just went to learn about a new job today. In short, it's basically an independent contractor for a law firm. Doing research and stuff. It's going to require some CRAZY driving, as my assignments will be all over the place (I'll get a nice tour of NJ, for sure!)

I don't want to kill my CB7, so I'm going to have to get a beater. The job is definitely worth it, IMO (plus, an excuse to have another car? please! you don't have to twist my arm!)

So, does anyone have any ideas for a good car to pick up?

    I need:
    Cheap to buy
    Cheap to maintain
    Cheap to repair
    Cheap to fuel
    Cheap to insure
Comfortable to drive many many miles in
    Reliable

I know I can't get it all, but I want to get the best I can get! I would like something older for $1000 or so, but not something I'm going to have to rebuild immediately. AccordWarrior and I have been talking about this, and the ideas we came up with have been:

    CB7 (duh)
    Civic
    Integra
    Cavalier/Sunfire
    Corolla
    Camry

And I think a few others... but I forget them

I'm leaning toward the CB7 for obvious reasons (I can fix it easily, and I have quite a resource here). Shoot me some other ideas if you have em!

Yeah, I considered those too... not sure about reliability and comfort though.

"reliability" basically means "won't strand me". I don't care if I have to fix it... I just want to be able to get it home and fix it in my driveway!

You know, my aunt is probably getting rid of hers... My mom offered it to me.

Are they reliable? I've never had much faith in Ford. Especially the cars.

I would stick with a cb7. You can get one cheap, especially since everyone is selling it seems like. If I ever had to get another DD, it would be a cb7.

Civic would be a 2nd choice.. but why downgrade to one when you can have a cb7?

Aren't VW's pretty costly to repair? I really don't know anythng about them (my roommate just got an 04 GLI, and the gas tank was leaking profusely last week... )

My only concern with the Cb7 (other than the fact that I would be tempted to mod it!) is that there are more efficient cars out there... and probably more comfortable cars too.

Ford = teh suck. You can have my mom's Escort for $100. SHe has thousands in receipts for replacing everything and anything that went wrong, and then the whole car still shit the bed. I have no faith in that company anymore...or ever again.

I concur, old school corollas are supposed to have a lot of fight in them.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

I've never been in one... how comfortable are they? Like, 8 hours on the road, 4 days a week type comfortable?

Damn right they do. You can pick up an 88-92 (AE92 sedan) for almost nothing at all. It will take daily floggings and beg for more.
