Why you DONT buy from used car dealers

OMFG! You guys would not believe the '92 Prelude I worked on today. This customer had just bought it from one of those little used car dealers, and he brought it in to us to have a 60K mile service done and to have the A/C fixed. The temp dealer plate on the back said "Honest Bob's Auto Sales" or something like that. I go to pull it into the shop, and when you hit the brakes, it almost takes you into the curb! So I pull it in and pop the hood. First off, it had the original H23 block with a F23A1 head from a 98-02 Accord. Everything under the hood had been completely butchered. It had the wrong distributor with a little homade sheetmetal braket on it to make it fit, every single wire, hose, and line had been cut off and then reattached in the most ghetto way possible, the lower timing cover was missing, it was puking every possible fluid from every possible seal and gasket.....and the list goes on and on and on...... The body and interior were in nice shape, but it was the powertrain and suspension tahat were fucked. I refused to work on it, I told the customer to just sell it. This guy got screwed! This my friends is why you don't buy from those little used car places.

You know where they get those cars from don't you? They buy them dirt cheap from auctions. These cars have usually previously been totalled, had flood damage, .....you name it. These are the reject cars that big dealers don't want to be associated with. You are better off buying from a reputable dealership or a private seller. If you go the private seller route though, definately take it to a mechanic to have a "buyers check" done before you purchase it.

I had the Honda used dealership manager admit to me that they sell trade-ins that they KNOW have fucked compression and other problems.

            They don't care.

Trust me, you're not going to get anything crappy with hidden problems from a large reputable dealer. They go over every car with a fine tooth comb, any lemon, salvage car, etc. gets wholesaled and goes to auction, and thats where those little shit used car lots get them. Only the good cars get reconditioned and go out on the lot. A large dealership has a reputation to maintain, they don't want to be associated with a POS. And for the record, salesman don't know shit!

true but there is always another asshole. what people dont see nor report is nothing to them in that they can hide something really well so no one notices.

in life today everything is about profit and money. they dont give a shit in my opinion and just want to make money and spend as little as they can on the car.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!
