It's drama on a major scale, the US needs to quit pussy-footing around
and start dropping nukes. Perception will change, but respect from fear is what the US needs in it's arsonal,
because right now we've got a big bulls-eye on our country......

The problem with this problem is that it isn't a simple problem...

OK first the situation all by itself. Then I will get into the large scale implications.

1) The fact that they caught it PRIOR to it actually occuring is a VERY good thing. 9-11-01 would mean nothing if they had previous success in that regard.

2) The fact that the British couldn't tell the US sooner because of the threat of it being leaked to media is VERY bad. What does it say about the interest of our media if they can't keep something like this quiet in the interests of national security?

3) The fact that they were going to hit airplanes again is actually VERY good for us. Why? because it shows lack of innovation. Lack of innovation is good because without innovation, life if predictable. We like predictable enemies. Of course it isn't completely surprising. This is the group that wants to keep doing things they way they do because "it is the way we have been for thousands of years." Lack of innovation is what made this group fall behind in the first place.

4) Not being able to carry drinks isn't the end of the world. The still serve them on the plane.

5) This is still a reactionary response. Unfortunately, we can't see the future, so we have to react to a point, but I don't really see changes on the surface that indicate a major shift in paradigm, to allow us to move out ahead of the enemy. We are still making changes based on what happened on 9-11. Problem is that the next time we get attacked, it won't be 9-11...but boy we will be prepared for 9-11...

Of course politicians by nature are reactionary to the constituents, so we can't expect much more until something REALLY bad happens like the depression that allowed FDR to do his thing.

Word. I think at this point in society, there are too many nuclear powers in the world (think N. Korea) that if we start waving ours around. See the problem is that it doesn't matter if the US doesn't sustain a direct hit...if we unleash enough radiation into the atmosphere, the effects will be felt all over the world.

Going nuclear is just a scary proposition, and not the right answer. Anthrax has such a chance of backfiring too, that would be silly to use IMO as well.

the terrorist groups are just that.....groups. not a country or a government. the groups aren't even big enuf to be called a state. and are never in one place for long, or even in the the countries you wish to nuke.

I agree with u on that one. Many are under the impression that we can solve the "terrorist problem" by dropping several bombs and "winning" several wars.

Unfortunately, this world and its inherant problems are not that simple and require equally complicated solutions.
