Download speed help

hey, im using bearshare latley to get most of the music i listen to latley. right now im usually downloading at 1-1.5 mbps. im ok with that, it gets the job done, but on my wireless connection thing in the task bar is says im connected at 18 mbps. why cant i be downloading any faster? any answers? thanks

well you probly arent downloading faster because that is your internets maximum speed. The speed that it says your connected at "im guessing anyways because this is how it is on mine" is the speed that your connected at on your network, becuase mine is 100mb/s and i can only get like 200kb/s? I dont use that I use limewire. but I have a question for you. 1.5MB/S??? holy hell man i get like 200kb/s max on limewire with cable. what connection do you have?!?

What version of limewire is free of adware and crap? I've been trying to get my kazaa lite to work, but I'm not sure if it's my WinXP firewall that's keeping me out, or if the kazaa network is gone...

well im on cable too. wireless connection. and dudes, try bearshare lite. thats what im using, its got a great network, and i guess i am just being picky about my speed? haha

by far the best downloading experience that i have had, thats compared to limewire, morpheus,winmx,imesh,poison,bittorrent, kazaa, and kazaa lite.

Oh and if you want individual songs try Soulseek. All of the music, none of the Adware.

Torrents are da shit. Could be the users your dl from sometimes the other person doesnt have the fastest connection in the world. Scan your comp for pop ups and all the crap might help a lil if you dont do that often.

There are TONS more sites out there... but these are the best ones.
Demonoid is the one I recommend the most. Everything that is tracked there is legit. They have a good moderating team to make sure of it.
Torrentreactor.net is the site you'll get the most results from, though many may be unseeded or dead torrents.

And for speeds, there's no arguing bittorrent is the most efficient means of P2P. Theoretically speaking though... bittorrent could be the best or the worst depending on the peers in the swarm. But on a well seeded torrent, you will get speeds that FAR surpass those you could get using any other crappy P2P protocol. I've maxed out my 8mbit connection on a torrent before. Downloaded a gig in less than 20 minutes.

and folks, remember the golden rule...



basically, what this means is UPLOAD as much as you DOWNLOAD
preferably more!
The only way bittorrent can work is if everyone shares what they take.

now that you have µtorrent

get a .torrent file from one of the websites I listed above (as long as it has 1 seed, you should be able to complete the download; the more seeds and leeches the faster it will download)

open that .torrent file using µtorrent, and tell it where you want to save the files.

wait patiently

when the files are done, you can open them up... even while still seeding.

Oh, and about Limewire pro..... don't expect it to last much longer.
The gnutella network has been slowly dying, and is about to be done for.

Not to mention, 50% of the shit on there is either malicious or fake.
I would never install such a piece of shit program on my pc.

Besides, with bittorrent, you download the whole album at once.
Try downloading a whole album through Limewire. Takes alot of work, and theres no guarantee you'll get the whole thing.
