I have a computer related question for you guys.

Im getting my old desktop back from my sister, which I inted to use for gaming purposes, as my laptop is . . . well, not really good at that stuff. I would like to make it my everyday computer, but thats really besides the point.

My real question is, is there any way I could put OS X on it and make it run correctly? I would still want windows on there, of course, but with Apple switching to Intel processors it made me think about this. My laptop's hard drive is far too small to do something like this, but the desktop has another 20 gigs available. (and Im most likely going to be either a) getting a bigger hard drive for it or b) getting an external for all my music and stuff)

I understand theres hurdles like different hardware and stuff, but Im doing some research on Boot Camp and I can't figure out if its only a one way thing (Mac->Windows) or if it can be reversed and manipulated to make OS X run on a PC.

Any input you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

My friend was running OS9 on his PC with an emulater quite some time ago... not sure how he did it though. I never cared. Apple stuff has always pissed me off. Everyone says it's stable, but the 2 times I used it, it crashed on me.

Ive never liked anything apple until I tried OS X. Im using a windows skin that makes my XP look like OS X in almost every aspect (its not perfect, but close), and applications like the dock and a widget engine thats like the Dashboard. I just think its a better set-up for an every day computer. once I get it up and running Im most likely going to try to get boot camp to work, so ill still have windows running, but Im not sure about that yet.

In the link you posted it looks like they're using a hacked version of the OS to pull this off. I wouldn't trust my computer to a operating system that has been dissasembled by some random person who had nothing to do with its developement and re-worked to run on a machine it wasn't intended for. Notice how in the instructions it says that his copy froze when it loaded up until he passed options on to the bootloader. If you want to use something different from Windows, go with one of the Linux distributions. Linux has been around for awhile and is a viable enough OS that lots of vendors sell commercial versions and some corporations are turning to it as an alternative to Windows for their servers and workstations. Also, I'm sure there is some shell or skin that would allow you to have Linux operate like OS X's gui.

Its doable, but its not as easy as you might think...

without getting into the technical jargon, go here: http://www.osxonpc.com/

you are basicly putting a hacked version of OSX on it.

keep in mind that this will NEVER be as stable as a pure Mac machine. the main reason Macs are so much more stable than a PC, is because Apple makes both the software AND hardware, where microsoft makes only the software and leaves it up to the third party companies to make it work.
