that's kind of weird IMO since snakes aren't "pets" anymore than fish are.....they don't need human interaction, only the basic necessities and they're fine........i don't wanna be laying in bed and some snake crawl up and shit on me.......

Hehe.. I doubt he was coming up to us for social reasons, more likely because we are sources of heat. We just chose to anthropomorphize him We put him in his aquarium when we went to bed. We didn't want an unexpected bedguest either. I'd be afraid to roll over and crush the poor guy or something heh.

When I lived in Dade conty FL I went and visited him at the Miami Serpentarium. The fucker is crazy! He handles EVERY snake by hand and with no protection, has been bit like 200+ times by now and even injects himself with the venom to build his tolerance. Snake bites don't phase him at all! He is truely on crazy fucker. I bet he'd pick yours up by hand and handle them like it was nothing!

yeah i've heard of him and he's done good things for the community, but he's not the guy ANYONE should model themselves after.....people don't realize that a bite from a big rattlesnake probably won't kill you with medical care, but you may need to relearn to use that limb over the course of a year AND you may lose it, then you have a $50,000 hospital bill to worry about.....he knew what he was doing, but so did joe slowinski and he died of a bite from a krate............he reached into a bag to get it out and got nailed and died in a couple of hours.......

the question is do you wanna give your life just so you can freehandled or do you wanna use that $40 hook and stay alive AND keep the hobby from getting another stupid black eye?

there have been a lot of people that do a lot of stupid things but since they've made a name for themselves, it's ok........they're still idiots

there is no way to immunize yourself against bites but a few people claimed lesser effects through self injection over the course of years.......thing is, you can spend 5-10 years immunizing yourself from a cobra bite and an eastern diamondback bite is gonna fuck you up just as bad, 2 different kinds of venom.....that's why there is so many types of antivenom......venom is complex proteins and i think there are like 24 known proteins that are classified as venom (cone snail has all of them) so to spend that much time to protect against one or two is goofy since proper equipment will keep you from being bitten.........no one has proven it to work yet because it's all relative to the snake bite........a dry bite does nothing......a bite from a big, agitated animal can give you twice its normal amount of venom......no one will take a syringe with a full bite amount and pop themselves with it to prove the effects are lessened

I think now he injects himself with all kinds of different venoms so that he can handle all snakes without having any nasty affects from bites. He's not a good example for the average person to follow, but he is certainly a specialist in the field of serpents.

most of his "accomplishments" are things you can't verify and are probably shit, like most old timer's stories, they're exaggerated as fuck......the instance you're referring too is not on any records and is crazy......the FDA has stepped in to keep him in check numerous times and for good reason; what he's doing isn't safe........he's failed when it comes to reproducing certain "feats" in his lab......he's been bitten but remember, snakes dont' always aim to kill when they bite and sometimes they will inject NO venom so his claim to being bitten nearly 200 times is as exaggerated as wilt chamberlains claim that he's banged 60,000 women or whatever the number was...........

insanity does nothing for human physiology.......my 80 year old granddad was healthy enough to go to jail for whipping a guy's ass for putting dead leaves in his ditch......he's never been bitten by a snake......the claims that this guy is alive due to snake venom is a bit bold due to the fact that he has nothing to back it up...he's good at putting on a show because he's reckless and people like that, they wanna see him get bitten......just like nascar, they watch for the wrecks, not the race.......

this guy has done a lot in certain areas, but has hurt the hobby a bit with the overall image.........i wanna die saying "i've never been bitten by a venomous snake" and this guy wants to claim he's been bitten 200 times.....he's made at LEAST 200 stupid mistakes..........most would look at this guy and call him a moron, like they do most guys who are reckless and irresponsible........he's no icon........i've got a big canebrake who'd fuck him up pretty good if he'd let her..........snakes from her locale are known to be not only hemotoxic like most other rattlers (destroys red blood cells and tissue) but also neurotoxic like cobras (as high as 30% neurotoxic even) and that can keep crofab (antivenom) from working fast enough and even working at all..........

stupid people impress other stupid people when it comes to things like this......in the discussions of "top herper" he's never mentioned.......he's a sideshow for both the informed and uninformed......
