We found a dead snake at work today and put it in front of the instrument cluster in one of our work trucks and a co-worker/friend of mine was the victim. He jumped back and realized it was dead because we weren't freaked out. lol

      Nice snakes, Ricky.

i don't freehandle them but if i had to, most would be ok with it...thing is, if they feel threatened and bite, you're fucked.....if they think they smell food on you and bite, you're fucked......no reason to put myself in a position to be envenomated..........they aren't puppies and they don't need your attention.....they'd probably rather be left alone.....i mainly just watch them and admire them from far enough away so that i can't be bitten......most are easy going though........

That's cool. A few friends have some snakes and say that they are so friendly and familiar with them that they can handle them all day long and even let their little kids play with them and shit.

sarcasm noted (it's linked directly to the lack of knowledge in this area, i know, see it every day)

i have 2 copperheads and 2 other rattlers......i have a canebrake who is over 5ft and eating rabbits

i've had one timber for 5 years, awesome snake, great personality, unique look.....people have actually paid me to use him for breeding......hopefully he and my monster female will make me some babies this year while my monster copper mates with my cotton above and produces some cottonheads (2 people have done it, no one since)

honestly, people like that are the reason i can't keep whatever species of snake i want to.........snakes don't give a fuck about people and don't need your attention.......they'd rather be left alone because stressing a snake out is as dangerous as throwing it against a wall, VERY fragile animals.......when little kids play with a corn snake that daddy shows them, then they're left outside and bitten by a rattler, no one blames the dad........shit happens, but most bites are due to people fucking with the animal......kids usually aren't told that some snakes are ok to mess with and some aren't.....so they get bitten and everyone wants the snake's head......

pythons and boas kill 2 to 3 times as many people per year in the USA than venomous snakes do.......the "bad snakes" usually aren't so bad compared to a "puppy tame" 15ft python

snakes don't tame, plain and simple....some are tolerant, some aren't......wild vs. captive born doesn't matter either.......the timber i've had 5 years was a wild snake and he's probably as comfy around humans as any snake i've owned.....the captive born cane female is big and hates humans......VERY uncomfy around anyone......they're too unpredictable to be anything but visual entertainment if that's your thing......people mistake tolerance for affection......with a 5ft ball python, that's ok because a bite is harmless......fucking up with a venomous snake or 8ft+ snake can mean your life

ah, point taken....but there are families that live with snakes....literally! They let them slither wild in the house and sleep with them in the bed and crazy shit like that! All kinds of snakes too!

My family was one of the let them slither all over types. We had a 6' black snake that we found in a field behind our house. Some farmer had whacked him with a shovel and he had head trauma, we tried to docter him up as best we could and he healed nicely. He was very laid back, only ever hissed one time when my mom came around the corner and startled him. We'd be watching TV and he'd come over and come up on the sofa and lay on you.

I was sick one day and the snake was wrapped all around me and my grandfather came over and he flipped out, hehe.. he was yelling at my mom and carrying on about it, it was funny as hell

i honestly don't understand why people are affraid of snakes. my g/f is terrified of them, yet she'll put her hand in with my piranah while it's eating. idk.

the best pet i ever had was my black spiney tail iguana. just under 5', that little bastard was like my dog, i'd walk him on a harness and leash. i let it roam free in my back yard for days at a time when i still live in spring valley (ca). man i miss that guy.

I'm not scured of snakes, but little fella is much easier/safer to pet than a rattler. More character too.....
