    Comments on posts

I don't know if anyone has noticed one of our cool new features... but you can comment on individual posts within a thread.
Until now, it was practically useless, because it was white on white. Turns out that text entry color is the same setting as the main text color, which sucks. I've been driving myself crazy over the last few weeks trying to figure out how to changes that stupid text color!
I know I haven't posted much lately, but it's because most of my time on this site right now is tinkering in the back end, trying to tweak settings. It MIGHT be good enough that I can relax for a bit!

Anyway, I changed all of the text entry boxes to this light grey color so the white text in those comment boxes will be somewhat visible. Not ideal, but it's something! I'll continue searching for a way to make that better.

Now, can we fix the "unapproved" responses in the beginner section?

Not a fan. Too used to the Quote system. Not to mention the idea that as a thread gets longer, you'll be missing potentially valuable comments because they were added earlier in the thread, under specific posts, rather than at the end where you're normally trying to keep up.

That's very true. The quote system is still in place, but I see how having the comments enabled might make things worse rather than better.

I like the idea of comments for things like "name your favorite movie", because you can continue discussing one thing without derailing the rest of the conversation.

Maybe I'll leave the comments in OT only, and disable them for other areas.

I'm not at all happy with the white on light grey, but it's unfortunately the only option unless we revert to a light color scheme... and after 17+ years, I just couldn't change the look of this site!

Now that MOST of our major issues seem to be smoothed out, I'm probably going to get an official thread going where we can start tracking the little details that need attention. This software is very different from the old version, and much of it makes very little sense. Support and documentation are limited, so I basically find myself fumbling around behind the scenes a few hours a week trying to figure out what does what.

Also, if I'm slow to respond to PMs, it's largely because the User CP for anyone with an Admin role is pathetically slow. Sometimes I can't even get in there at all. This is apparently an ongoing complaint with vBulletin, and the only response I've seen so far has basically been "sorry, that's just how it is..."
If there's ever an issue that is causing major difficulty, shoot me an email at deevergote@comcast.net. That'll hit me faster than a PM with this new setup.

This should be fixed now. A few usergroups didn't have the "skip moderation" option checked for the beginner section. All should be able to reply to beginners without the response requiring approval now!
