This is one of the many reasons I work on my own car. I don't need a dunderhead of a "tech" working on my car. it's alot eaiser to just do it myself and not worry "I wonder if they over tightend the oil drain bolt". so much eaiser on the mindLast edited by pwrusr; 05-26-2006, 02:08 AM.

damn you guys have had some bad experiences. I am a mechanic and I feel I am a good person. I really try to do the customer right. I don't recomend things they don't need. I really try to do a clean profesional job. I like customers to come back with more cars and friends cars. It does bug me that mechanics have a bad rep cause of only certin people. I think it is also a moral/ethical decision as a person. I mean that is how i make my money on people buying stuff. But if a customer does not need it why sugesst it.
I think about it this way. What if this was one of my family members car? Would I want a mechanic ripping my mom off? Selling her stuff she does not need. That is my opinion.

x100. Dude, you know my dad. My mom has learned a LOT from him. Whenver she used to go to repair shops before she bought her new car, all the dude mechaincs looked at her when she said what it needed like "WTF? I was owned by a house wife!"
i learn how to do things on my own, and if you need to take your car to jiffy lube to do an oil change, you should be shot in the face...
twice...
its understandable if you dont have the time though

Aggggggghhhhhhhh I could write a book on the sh*tty mechanics I've had to deal with...
-I've had my car for 2 years, got my oil changed either at Pep Boys or the local shop...everytime my oil change interval came up the oil light started flashing; I figured "eh my baby's just burning oil"...turns out NOBODY EVER CHANGED MY FUCKING FILTER. I go to change the oil with h22sparkle one day and it's a FUCKING HONDA FILTER!!!! I was pissssssssed!!! If my engine had seized it would have been on like popcorn. And the worst part is, I WORKED AT PEP BOYS!!!! I USED TO BRING THE FILTERS OUT TO THE SERVICE BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-I needed a clutch job done, didn't really know anyone who could help me out so again I went to Pep Boys. Mechanic does the job in a day or so, I get the car back, go to pull it out...something snaps, then the car doesn't move in gear...it just kinda rattles. I wind up having to leave the car and paying another $150 for them to do my axle, even though the stupid fucks probably forgot to put the C-clip back in or something. I was PISSED!!!!
-Went BACK for a FINAL TIME to get my front tires changed as I bought the rears from there and I need my shit to match. I take it in and DO THE WORK ORDER MYSELF. I wanted 195/60R15's. I get the car back, and I'm like "wow these are a lot smaller than the 205s I had in front. Meh." I drive home, look at the car again...STUPID FUCKS, THEY GAVE ME 185/60R15s!!!!! I drove it back and made them change my tires to the size I wanted...aghhhh so incompetent!!!!
Long story short, find a mechanic you can TRUST. h22sparkle is cool with mad peeps so he gets the lowdown on a lot of shops...I went out with him to get his tranny rebuilt and we were talking to some dude who does bodywork. Mike asked him if he knew of any good transmission shops, and the dude was like 'i know some but i cant recommend them. im lookin for one madamself'. When we asked him about a Gibraltar nearby he said, and I quote, 'yea my family runs that one. definitely don't recommend that one'. WTF???? You can't trust ANYBODY man. I've been ripped by people who I WORK WITH...peeps my family's been going to for years...it's like WTF man??????
I know there are some good mechanics out there because they're people too...unfortunately, I'm pretty sure none of them exist in NYC...they all hate the customers, their jobs, and their lives, and everyone on the road suffers because of it. It's so fucking stupid.
