    Animal Help/advice

Hey guys so i am a big softy and while i was out with friends last night i saw some ppl being mean to this bird that apparently broke its wing. well i couldnt stand it so i took it home. i plan on taking to a rescue place in the morning but im afriad they arent going to take her. anyways if anyone has any experence with birds and what i can do with her wing please let me know. I found a site that told me i could wrap it but i dont know if its in the right postion to heal good enough for her to fly again.

I think its a girl i dunno i have very little experence with birds.
    Thanks

most rescue centers wont take it unless it is a rare or endangered bird ... let me correct that they will take it but they do the inevitable to it instead of wasting their resources on it the only thing you can do if you really want to try to help it is wrap it and hope it heals and during this time you will need to try to feed it bugs, worms, seeds for bird feeders ... whatever it will eat and take care of it if it wont eat then it will most likely die and if the wing doesnt heal within 6 weeks it will most likely die soooo its your call

she does need a name and im up for suggestions.

I got her some bird food last night and she is eating it. and she is drinking she isnt in shock anymore last night she was. today she is being more of a bird ( stay away i dont know you) but she doesnt try to peck me which is good. as for the wing can i wrap it in the postion its in and hope it works? if it doesnt heal the guy at petsmart said she could live fine just not in the wild. I dont mind keeping her forever long i need to i just kinda want to make sure her quality of life doesnt suck ya know.

i'd say the best thing to do is bring it to a Vet Clinic if you are willing to spend money on it. just make sure to call before you show up because there aren't too many places that will treat birds.

and i know that when a bird isn't doing so well, the less it's handled the better it is. it's definately a good sign that it's eating and drinking though.

That hardly makes you a "softy".
              That just makes you human.

Good for you, and good luck with her. Even if the bird rescue centre ends up euthanizing her, thanks to you she'll go peacefully, with out pain.

I had a similar experience with a duckling that got lost from the flock(or whatever it is called). I took it to an animal rescue/shelter and all they end up doing is putting it to sleep. So if you really like it, keep it.

thanks guys. the guys around here are making fun of my bird rescue. owell. i dont mind keeping her i just want to make sure that if i can fix her wing she isnt in pain, i know i wouldnt like to walk around the rest of my life with a broken arm. and i dunno if it would be the same for her. i dunno i will see shes gonna go later today, if the vet says its best for the deep sleep then thats fine, it is better to go peacefully than by a rock to the head.

its your call the vets want to put her down because they feel it isnt worth their resources or your money but if you feel the bird has a chance if you help then by all means but if you feel that you dont have the time or resources to help take comfort in the fact that you atleast help it out when the guys were f#cking with it and now it can rest peacfully just my .02

i believe you have to put her wing straight......place two ice cream sticks and wrap it with that white tape that we use when we get a broken bone...I forgot the name............but make sure that its not that very sticky kind cause you might pull her feather off...(which you have to any way to put the sticks....but since you doon't know what your doing just place it on top of her feathers)...........don't put it on too tight but tight enough that she can't get free............keep it on for a month....than check it if its not heel'd WELL...your best bet is KILL (sorry for saying it.....i use to work at a pet store and when the lil animals use to fight and get hurt and their wounds are very bad....WELL! you should now the rest).....it or let her suffer ...If it take 6 weeks for owr bones to heel (that how long they told me about my lil toe).......and the birds bones are smaller and weaker.....it should take less time but make it 6 weeks.........
