    Slow ass PS2

I have one of those slim PS2s.... shit gets worse and worse all the time

First it stopped playing San Andreas. Game works fine at friend's house on his PS2 but just not mine.

Now, it won't even let me play Dub edition online anymore... keeps disconnecting me. Plus I get slowdown during gameplay now too. Just started happening

I've already tried cleaning the laser with one of those disc things...

What can I do to speed my PS2 up?!

not sure if it had anything to do with it... but when i had one(chipped), it would get hot quickly. and soon after it would take longer to load. or sometimes in the middle of a race i would drive off into a blank screen cause the ps2 couldnt load quick enough... kinda like that tony hawk commercial, where he runs into a wall that says "loading".

basically im saying the slims are shit. since then i got a used oringal ps2 and it works great... chipped as well.

my slim one has never done that. ever. my old PS2 used to have the disc read error, fixed it a few times myself, but that stopped working. sorry I cant help.

Perhaps its overheating, as drlove suggested. Perhaps you can improve the cooling.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

My slim did that too, and what is funnier is I was playing Dub Edition rigtht after San Andreas too. I put a fan on this ps2 and I clean up my Memory car a little bit. Try and delete some crap off your memory card, or try and play a little without it and see if that fixes it.

I'll put a fan on it tonight and see if it helps.

Speaking of which I haven't touched my PS2 in like two months...holy shit.

But Im waiting to get Tourist Trophy, Driver (the new one snuck in and I didnt even know) , and HitMan Blood Money (nothing on that yet).

I seldom play video games nowadays.

Same here... I stopped playing when it stopped playing San Andreas (which was a long time ago) and then my GT4 came up missing.... so now I started playing Dub edition and got hooked. I play about 30mins-1hr a day on it. That's about all I can take.

some slim ps2s have issues with the lasers (as do many models of ps2). If games are really slow to load/ wont load indicates a laser replacement is needed. try watching a dvd movie and if it is choppy/laggy etc it will need to be done. my v9 modded ps2 is begining to trip up on dvd games and movies.

                      good luck

try putting the DISC SPEED setting to FAST.. that solved my freezing issue.

you said you cleaned the laser... what exactly did you do? the proper procedure for cleaning the laser is to take a cotton swab, dip it in rubbing alcohol, shake off any excess liquid then wipe the lens GENTLY, let it dry & try your ps2. if that dosen't work, your laser lens will have to be replaced.

as stated before, i would put my money on a heat issue. A ps2 is nothing more than a regular computer. and when computers get hot, they slow down
