wow, that's cool! i think that makes up for the pickguard not being original...in terms of auctionability!

and i learned a few things about my dad's....actually, it's sorta mine, he told me if i play bass more he'll give it to me.

good shit! If I were you, I'd be playing bass everyday!

You and your dad might be able to appreciate my electric guitar:

It's a little rough, but I bought it brand new 14 years ago and it has been HEAVILY used this whole time. Got Screamin Demon pickups and some custom wiring and a few other things done to it.

          coolness!

personally i've never liked the metal rocker styled guitars. i don't even like stratocasters...in fact i hate them lol.

i like ricks, les pauls, sg, thunderbirds, telecasters, jazzmasters, gibson 335's, gretch's. for basses...ricks, gibsons, i know precisions and jazzmasters are amazing, but they still look similar to strats.

talking purely on looks, nothing based on playability and shiz.

i think the ibanez i really like is the one that omar plays in the mars volta...AX120, but it's entirely custom. the stock guitar is prolly only like 350$

Omar uses a Ibanez AX120 custom. He has many of these guitars and uses them in The Mars Volta tours. He used a Fender Mustang, a Fender Jaguar, and a Fender Telecaster on The Frances The Mute album and he used a Gibson SG on De-loused In The Comatorium. Omar also uses Orange and Vox amps. He used a Jaguar and a 1977 Gibson SG when doing shows with John Frusciante and Flea. The pickups in the Ibanez AX120 are Seymour Duncan JB Jrs. He also uses a huge range of effects pedals.

yeah mine wasn't very expensive...like $450 new with case but I'm an old school metal head so I love these "thrasher" guitar styles. Not to mention the classic "metal" groups like Kiss used bizarre guitars like this. In the pic it's pretty stripped. I took all the pick guard and trim and other pieces off. It's kinda like my stripped car now that I think about it! lol Function over looks

                  lol!

I'm sure there's still plenty of people who have never heard of "hotrodding a guitar"! I want to eventually cut out the center between pickups and put in another pickup and swap over to a 5-way switch. I'd be nice to convert it to active pickups too!

I recently sold my amp and speaker cab and pedals and all the extras so I have nothing to play through anymore I'm stuck playing the acoustic for now. Not that I'm complaining, but you just can't make the acoustic scream or do pinch harmonics like you can with a good electric with the right distortion!

I guess I have the same view with everything and guitars/amps are no exceptions....OEM sucks! Mods are needed! I also modded the amp too. It was a Fender Stage Lead II. The potentiometers were gettin a little scratchy and some of them were broken so I replaced them, but for the bass, mid a trebble pots I replaced them with wider range pots so I could get a wider range of sounds out of it. It was originally a 2 12" combo amp but I pulled the electronics out, made a case for it (with pimp red carpet ) so I could use it as a seperate head and plug it into whatever cab I wanted to. Had it hooked up to a homemade 4 12" cab with Celestions and it did very good! Like I said, I sold all of this stuff but it was great while I had it. Here's an old picture of the amp with the case I made when it had broken knobs and other various things wrong with it:
