Opinion: h22 swap or new car?

First of all, I have a 93 accord coupe with i/h/e/272/chipped ecu. I have over 200,000 miles on my car. I'm about to start a full time job next week and I'm also getting married in June. Basically, I have a few options for my daily driver. I can either swap an h22 in my current car (my motor has multiple oil leaks and over 200,000 miles), or trade/ buy something newer. I want something fun to drive and something that is reliable and respected among other car enthuisiasts. I've been back and forth with this idea and still haven't decided. I'm not going to go turbo anymore so don't suggest that. If I did my h22 swap, I would have a sweet car but it would still be over 13 years old. Let me know what you guys think.

It depends..hows the rest of the car? bushings, seals, bearings, brakes, suspension...if all that is still good (after 200,000 miles, all that was still good on my car). i would say swap an H22 in, save some money, and then buy what you want later.

and stop caring so much what other people think...you sound like the cheerleader girls in high school

Keep it. Older car equals cheaper insurance. So the you have more to put into it.

I want a newer car myself, preferrably a 4door AT, but I don't want the payment! And I don't think I could part with my cb7. So I wouldn't have much money for a down payment.

On the plus side, my engine is in tip top shape, no leaks plus I just did the t-belt, water pump, etc.

So I'm still not sure what I will end up doing.

Well, you will have to get your priorities straight. As usual, there are pros and cons to both sides.

              Keeping the Accord:

              Pros:

1)For about $2500 you can have everything you need to swap, including an LSD tranny. I am assuming that your car is already paid off, so for a nominal fee, you will have a very good street car, that is fun and practical.

2)It will be cheaper on insurance/ w no car payment, which will result in substantially reduced operating costs if the rest of the car is in good shape.

3)Hardly anybody will expect it to be quick.

4)It's a Honda so you know that it will continue to be reliable and pleasant to drive.

              Cons:

              1) Honda Accords aren't exactly idolized in the tuner world. I think you are foolish for wanting a car because other people want it, but whatever you need to do.

              2) It will still be 13 years old or older, increasing the likelyhood of age related issues.

              3) You will never be able to recoup the money you put into it, so if you do swap it, you will have to drive it out. If someone hits it and totals it, you will probably take a loss.

              4) There are newer more sophisticated cars on the road these days, although most have dulled the driving experience with "luxury" and isolation.

              Buying a new car:

              Pros:

              1) If it is brand new, you don't have to worry about any mechanical issues. Most new cars never break down in the warranty period and most Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans never break until long after the warranty has expired.

              2) There is a certain joy in getting a new car.

              3) It will be easy to beat the performance of a stock CB7 with modern HP figures and engine technologies without really taking a hit in the mileage department. It would even be relatively easy to beat the performance of a swapped H22 with the right car.

              4) People are much more likely to envy you with anything new.

              Cons:

              1)The car payment

              2)The insurance

              3) The limitations on "modding" it when it is under warranty.

Those are just a few of the reasons, but it is a decision that ultimately only you can make.

Personally, my next car will be a fully loaded Accord EX V6 with 6 speed and Navi.
