I work at an Autozone 50 miles north of Mexico and 75% of the people that go in are mexican. They expect you to speak spanish, and if you tell them you don't (just cause I don't feel like it, cause I really know some spanish), they'll start cussing at you in spanish and shit. I'm not saying that mexican people are bad or anything, but I just think there should be standards for migrating to the US, not only from mexico, but from other countries too.

When civil war broke out in Guatemala, my grandmother got sponsored by a family in the states (the Nicholas's) to come work for them in D.C. At the time (60's) you could become a citizen that way, so she worked for them and became a citizen. If she hadn't been able to, if she would have had to stay in Guatemala, I wouldn't be here today!

Nowadays I don't think they allow that sponsoring program anymore. So I assume its harder to get in nowadays. But with what she faced with war in Guate. she would've fought everything to come to this country.

That's rather anecdotal, I apologize, but I still stand on my opinion.

I don't want people who come here and break the law either. Fuck those people, they give all hispanics a bad name and we formally disown them from our race.

Maybe I should stop at this point and unsuscribe from the thread if its gonna become a retarded flame fest...

ok ok... look at it this way the people that want this bill to become law, if so and illegal immigrants are deported and all that are left are citizens of the us. then what good would come of it. The us economy thrives on illegal immigrants, (watch day with out a mexican it portrays what it would be like), to do jobs that otherwise normal citizens wont or would but not with the same salary. Hypatheicly speaking if they leave and we have all the jobs left open people wont do them for the wages that were spent, would you mow lawns for 2 bucks an hr i dont think so, would you build a fence for 4.50 an hour, would you work construction for 6 dollars an hr. They do and because they do the price of living is somewhat cheep. If we take thse jobs and demand more money then you will see a sharp increase in prices..like the strawberries, oranges they would cost alot more cause companys would have to accomidate to get the profit once gained.

You have to look at it as a money stand point do you want to spend more money...for everyday objects just so illegal immigrants will leave i think not. thats all i ahve to say cause its time for school think about it

i dont fully understand the CURRENT immigration policy, how hard is it to become a us citizen? if its not hard, i could see why they are considering the bill, but if its difficult to become one, i dont really think its fair to jail people for just doing more than the average lazy american citizen does.

btw is there a link to a news site where we can read more about this bill, rather than just hearing it secondhand on a messageboard.?

first of all, if this bill were to be passed, all the illegals aren't gonna disapear overnight. I highly doubt we'll suffer from a massive deflation...

Give me your tired, your poor...

This country was founded by illegal immigrants. The only difference is that the ones in question now take low paying jobs and work 70 hours a week, rather than killing and enslaving people. Illegal immigrants aren't taking jobs away from anyone. If YOU were willing to do crap work for minimum wage and never complain about it, I'm sure you'd get hired over someone that doesn't speak English. I know I don't want to do landscaping, dishwashing, farming, etc... but things would be difficult if there weren't people who were willing to do those jobs! If legal Americans were doing all the jobs that the illegals are currently doing, prices would rise considerably.

We already have immigration laws. Those that come here illegally know that. Those that allow them to pass aren't doing their jobs. All this law will do is fill our prisons with even more people. Prisons paid for by tax money. OUR money.

                  So, we have 2 choices.

                  a) Let them come in, do cheap labor (and do it well), keep prices related to that labor down.

                  or

                  b) Make them criminals, which won't stop most of them anyway. It's worth the risk. Raise taxes, crowd our prisons (which means the judicial system will have to be "selective"... I forsee problems there as well...) We'd eventually have to expand the prison system, which means more tax money to build and renovate prisons. At least there will be plenty of jobs as prison guards!

Now, please keep this thread clean. If you want to participate in the discussion, do so. But if you just want to spout off some unintelligent comments, keep it to yourself. I'm overlooking the previous comments (simply because I'm on my laptop, and banning someone would take about 15 minutes.) If any other mod reads this and chooses to issue a ban, they have my full support. I won't close this thread yet.

The first vaild point against this bill I've heard so far...the needed prisions and tax dollars. If the government forces employers not to hire illegals, we could start the downward spiral of illegals. Then they wouldn't be so interested in coming here illegally...

99% of the illegal immigrants come here with good intensions. Most of them that i know (mexicans and others) work here and send money back to their countries to help their families and villages. Some of the living conditions in other counties are brutal. In life most people want to move up the ladder, make something of themselves, be a better person, and if that means to sneek into a country and do some crummy job just to send money to raise your family, and their willing to do it, they should be able too. Their are many people here in New York who you could of sworn were citizens but their not, they work their asses off. This county was built by hard workers (legal and illegal). Their are illegal kids who are smart, i knew this one kid who was soo smart that they could of got a FULL scholarship to NYU and because they were illegal they were still accepted but had to pay full price. now the parents dont make alot of money cause their illegal so theres no way that they kid could go to that school. Some people came here as little children and this is all they know, to deport them or jail them would be retarted. just my two cents

that will never happen as long as most americans continue to be themselves. a vast majority wont even mow their own lawn nowadays, how lazy is that man?

but yea, that is THE only way illegal immigration will be stopped, or lessened atleast.

                        501accord:
becoming illegal is not hard, its just takes many years. For all you guys know, the majority of illegal immigrants are trying to become legal. It just takes time. and I'm not talking about a few months, I'm talking about 5+ years, and thats to even just get a worker's permit. then you still have to go through the process to become a citizen.

The stuff they have to do is not hard, its basic american history that most americans don't even know about their country. It's all about how america was established, who established it..etc.. all that stuff you learned back in high school in US history class. there are 100 questions and you have to get atleast 70 of them right. at least thats how it was for my mom.

my mom has been here since 1986, she has been a citizen since '99. she tried to become a citizen as soon as posible, but it just cant happen. Not even if they pay for a workers permit before they(immigrants) cross the border. Those things are expensive as hell.

My mom has been here since 1978, well I don't know if that would make her a naturalized citizen since Palau was once a U.S Territory up until 1994 when they officially gained Independence.

My question is, what happened to the land of the free?

The illegals are the ones that do the cheap labor anyway. If you're a citizen, and you live here, you need money to live. It's cheaper to live in Mexico than it is to live in most areas of the US. If a Mexican illegal works his ass off here for a year or two, he can live in Mexico fairly comfortably for much longer on that money than he could here. They come, they put in long hard hours doing the crap jobs, and they go home. It's not a lavish life, but the opportunity for money, even what we consider very little money, is much greater here than back home.

Untill they start taking important jobs away from highly qualified citizens, I see no harm. An English speaking highschool graduate has far more in the way of opportunity than a non-English speaking illegal immigrant. They are NOT taking anyone's jobs away!

Alot of people are blaming the "illegals" which i think is what the Gov intented to do when they let this cat out of the bag. Alot of you are being fooled by the government once again. Everyone makes you think that "illegals" dont pay taxes, they use the system, blah blah blah. Some do, and its those bad apples that ruin it for all the rest of us. Which pisses me off. But what alot of you dont understand is that Illegals DO pay taxes, Some get paid under the table, but prob a big percentage dont. You need to blame the government for this.

Illegals get fake documents, with those fake documents they get taxed, The employer has to deduct taxes because they dont want to get introuble. Those people with illegal documents dont claim those taxes why? because they dont want to get caught, and go back to mexico. The governemnt is making billions of dollars, yo think they really want to get rid of their piggy bank? i think not. illegals buy gas(taxed), foox(taxed in alot of states), etc etc.

And then if you really want to get me started on how "illegals" are ruining and over crowding the school system, Sure it might seem like it. But when i was in school, i noticed alot of "legals" not wanting to work, learn, study. They would just skip or not give a shit. So you cant really blame them for that. The US pays more per kid than alot of other countries when it comes to schooling, even with so many illegals in the system. And parents blame the system, because their kids dont get educated, blame the damn kids!.

Alot of you have valid points.

And for those of you who think "illegals" want citizenship handed to them on a silver platter, think again. It will never get easyer. The reason they come into the states illegally, is because its easyer to become a permenant resident once you are in the states. They will definatly not make it easyer.

                              Quote:
By opposing this bill, should we allow murderers loose even though they broke the law?
If you were a murderer and the goverment gave you a choice? would you do it? i know i would.

My parents brought me here illegally. Sure sometimes i got mad at them, but i am also grateful. I dont think my life would of been as good as it is now. My parents tought me to work hard for everything, not to let anyone hand anything to me. I learned english in like 6months, And was forced to speak it at home, What do i have to show for that now? cant hardly speak spanish, read some, cant write in spanish. And so far i think ive pleased them. Except for the part about going to college, because illegals cant get federal funding, which my parents didnt know.

To say the least, 5k dollars later, alot of paper work and 1 1/2 years of waiting, I have gotten my permanent residency, and in 2yrs i can petition for my citizenship. Not to mention all the help my wife(citizen) has given me. And then i can help my mom become a permenant resident.

I never knew i was illegal until i was in maybe 8th grade? when we were in history class, The guilt that i felt.......
