Man, I know how it is! I have 2 college degrees, and I can't find a damn thing! I need to go to grad school to use either of them. It's nearly impossible finding a job that pays decently (and I'm talking a measly 30k a year...) that would allow me to go back to school (even nights!)

If you want something car-related, check out the franchise shops... Midas, Meineke, etc... or even the Tire places (Goodyear, Just Tires, Firestone, etc...) That, or car dealerships. I know a number of people on here that work for various dealerships (Honda, BMW, Ford) doing various things. Those jobs all pay decently, and they'll give you some experience. It'll make you more attractive to better places in the future!

What are your qualifications? Have you completed any schooling yet, other than highschool? What experience do you have? Even if it's not paid experience, you can use it to get a job if it's relevant. Hell, I put cb7tuner.com on my resume! (seriously! It's computer experience, as well as management experience... and it shows dedication to something. Considering I don't get paid, it shows motivation other than monetary compensation. Companies like to see that.)

Get yourself a resume, perhaps even some examples of your work. Get references to vouch for you if they ask... and stop in! Present yourself in a confident, professional manner, and make them believe they can't do without what you have to offer.

Unless they're looking for someone, it'll be hard getting into a custom shop. Many shops like that are very tight knit, like a family. They all know each other, and they often don't need someone new. Give it a shot though. Who knows!

I have heard they pay pretty decent also. Like not minimum wage but somewhere along the lines of $16 p/h. Aleast here in Cali they pay that much. Not sure about other places though. Give it a shot if the custom shop comes up short. Money is money and unless your parents are rich, I would take what I could get.

Off of 151st & I-35 is a place called Encore Staffing. They are basically a temp service. When I was with them I worked at the dillards distribution center making about $10 an hour with incentive. Jiffy Lube pays $7 an hour starting. So I would say try Encore if no where else.

I've gotten 2 calls from having my resume on Monster.com... both have been for some sort of financial advisor crap... not my bag. There are some good things on there though. I like the fact that you can search according to desired salary
