After my full rebuild, my 16 year old car is problem free. Really its all in the eye of the beholder. To someone who is more into new styling a 2006 Mustang may appeal to them. For someone who loves old school, they would love the 64 or 67 Mustang. Each will cost a pretty penny to acquire. So really age is just a number. To each his own I guess .

P.S. I will never give in to OBD2.

CB7 FOR LIFE THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY.it feels good when you have a 13 year old car and can keep up with civics and tegs even domestic cars.I think the cb chassis has body lines that look beautiful and especially if you have the sleeper look plus civics and tegs are so played out and i just like being different. peace!!

to add to the ''my car is broken i'm selling it'' threads. a lot of people just throw parts at the car when it won't start, hopeful it will fix it, in turn wasting lots of money without properly diagnosing the problem. later.

I got rid of my cb becuase it was 15 years old, and a car that old needs attention that I dont have the time to give to it. beyond mechanical even. Think about the rubber and seals around the door, etc. those need work too.

One day, i'd like to restore a cb7. Right now, there just isnt time.

The only reason I want to move on is because right now it's not reasonable to have this car as my main car. I need an suv...and I'd love to keep my cb...because I love my cb.....but right now it's not reasonable. Add to all that, I spent all my money and I'm no where close to done. Believe me, I had monster plans for my car...but I need to let go of it. Maybe I could get my old one back from my mom...even if it is stock. Oh well...

Sometimes I get frustrated... but not enough to move on. I honestly don't like many of the newer cars. Anything newer than 1995 doesn't appeal to me. The sporty cars are too bubbly, and the luxury cars (like Maximas) are just too heavy. The CB7 has gotten me accustomed to the boxier, more angular designs. If I EVER gave up on the CB7 (mine would have to be taken from me in some way... and even then I would probably buy another) I would still probably get something well over 10 years old.

I do have plans to eventually get a Skyline GT-R (not just childlike dreams... I have a degree, and I'm working towards a graduate degree... I'll have the means soon enough!) I don't expect that to replace my CB7 though! I also have plans for some twisted turbo project... that also will not replace the CB7. My fiancee is going to get a nice car to replace her Civic. I'm hoping for a 6th gen Accord. Again, not even close to replacing the CB7!

after a while it just seems like a pain in the ass that you have to dump your hard earned cash to fix bullshit..

                          Hmm...

We have 5 CB7s in our family (2 are mine, 91 DX and 91 EX).

                          1990 EX sedan 5spd ~ 290K miles
                          1991 SE sedan auto ~ 245K miles
                          1993 LX sedan auto 10th anniv. ~ 126K miles
                          1991 DX coupe 5spd ~ 205K miles
                          1991 EX sedan 5spd ~ 180K miles

All of these Accords ride nice as I've restored the suspension (stock specs, semi-performance, performance). All brakes have been run through and work well. All maintenance is kept up on ALL 5 Accords and ALL run and you could take ANY one of them and drive from FL to CA and back without worry (I bet anything on that). All have new or close to new tires. Our 90 EX is a rustbucket and looks like crap, but it rides nice and runs great. I find it hilarious when I see nice "looking" cars on here, but they run like crap.....goes to show looks are not everything and can be deceiving. Everything works on this car too, down to the power side mirrors.

Point is, I am the one that maintains them and if my family has 5 in running condition, any one of you can do the same for ONE car. It's all about attitude and perserverance. Hell, throw in our 87 sable wagon, 88 integra and 2001 Odyssey that all run as well. The 87 sable is nearing 300K miles and just won't die!! If you really cared to keep your CB7 or any car for that matter running, you would. Those selling or opting out just have to admit, they do not want the car anymore...nuf said.

Reality check....ANY car you buy new or used will require maintenance and if you keep avoiding it, it WILL catch up on you. To avoid this look into public transportation....

Junkyard, junkyard, junkyard Give me $200 and 3 days... I could find all that stuff in good condition, plus buy some lunch!

We have old cars. These cars show up in the cheapie u-pull-it junkyards all the time! Many without much damage. For that reason, the age of these cars is a good thing! Old, cheap, and common... yet reliable, powerful, and comfortable. Are there better cars? Yeah, probably. The CB7 doesn't accel at anything in particular... but as an all around car, it's quite good!

I can understand why people give up on the cars...hell I'm close myself. But in the same, its been the only car I've ever had and I"ve had it coming up on 5 years...change is good sometimes. I won't sell it...I do know that much.

The problem with our cars...its the rarity factor in a way, as well as a lot of dumb problems that are expensive to replace. Modding our cars is difficult, as we don't have the greatest aftermarket support, and its never really cheap either. The god parts for our cars cost an arm and a leg, compared to other models (think Civics). There's always a pro and a con to that.

Hondas are very rust prone. That was the reason I was initially selling mine...but I was dumb enough to drop the model to de-rust. Totally worth it, but its just like...that's another car right there. Plus now I still have a lot of motor maintence stuff I gotta deal with that just adds up. I know you'll see this with any car of this age, but at times its just overwhelming.

Other things I've noticed is that our cars are someone difficult to work on, compared to other cars (think Civic). For example, brake jobs. The average shade tree mechanic can't easily replace the front brakes on our cars, without having a press. My friend did the brakes on his Civic in an afternoon.

I think the thing is a lot of us probably just want a change of pace. I know that a lot of my friends are getting into newer and newer cars, with less miles and things of that nature. Sometimes my 16 year old family sedan just doesn't cut it for me.

So I can totally understand where people are coming from. Unless you have the 92-93 EX model, our cars aren't all that fast...unless you have the EX model stock, they're pretty bland looking (I know my car was/is) and its just there's a lot to be desired. I know that one of these days I'll get there and have the car where I want it...but I still drool everytime I see that black GSR with a Type R wing zip by...wishing it was mine.

Oh well, when I get out, I'll pick up a new (brand new) car and mod it a little and have fun.

Maintenance is required with every car you'll ever buy. That isn't a valid reason to sell a car. While some cars may require more maintenance than others, or yours may need an insane amount of maintenance, chances are whatever you buy next will need the same shit; if not when you buy it, then a few months down the road when you're caught not taking care of your stuff again.

I got rid of mine for valid reasons, as I posted earlier in this thread. I spent money on a different car not to escape maintenance (at the time my CB7 just needed a clutch) but for greater potential.

What I got myself into was a maintenance nightmare. The previous owners didn't take care of the car I bought past oil changes and spark plugs / wires. What I'm left with is a wiring fiasco, more suspension problems than I know what to do with, clicking CV shafts, distributor problems, etc etc etc. The good news is that I finally decided to get all of this stuff out of the way and fix it all before it becomes a serious issue.

The bottom line is that I'm much more willing to put money into my CRX than I am my CB7 (it's still lurking in the family) because the CRX suits me better than the CB7. The CRX has more potential than the CB7, and in my case has less rust.

Infact anybody that is willing to argue to me that the CB7 is just as much of a sports car as a CRX is...go try to heel-toe your CB7 down into 2nd gear on a tight corner. I own and drive both (91 HF vs 91 LX) and I can tell you that you will have a very hard time finding the gas pedal with your heel, whereas the CRX was obviously designed for heel-toe driving as the pedal falls predictably on your heel every time.

That said...they're both good cars, but I'd choose the CRX chassis over the CB7 chassis any day.
