    Hmm... what to do?

    Well I picked up a couple of things from work today...

    Hmm what could these be...

    lets get closer...

    a little closer...

    lets get real close...

    I managed to get:
    * A 2003 K20 Honda Civic Si motor with 24,000 miles.
    * A 2003 J30 Honda Accord V6 motor with a little over 30,000 miles.

    The story behind the K20 motor: I guess the drain plug wasn't tightened and it came out while driving. It lost most of the oil. It was under warrenty so they replaced the whole motor.

    The story behind the J30 motor: Apparently the timing belt came apart. It too was under warrenty, so it was replaced.

    How much did this cost me? Zero. I loaded em up and took em home.

    What do you guys think I can do here? I thought about trying to rebuild one or both for a learning experience and maybe a future swap into something. I could always try to part them out or sell the whole engine as is. Can I get some opinions please. Thanks guys.

    Timing belt??? That could be ugly...

    Both these engines might need full rebuilts...good luck though. See if you can fit the J30 in a CB!!!@@@

      Yeah either way, i'm sure it's gonna be a lot of work. I haven't cracked them open yet to see how it looks inside.

      Yes I thought of that... that'd be crazy if I could get the J30 in the CB, lol.

          The J30 in a CB would require LOTS of modification. It'd be unique, but it wouldn't be an easy fit at all. If you can fabricate mounts, and are comfortable with relocating a lot of things under the hood, then give it a shot. It's not like mounting an H22 in a Civic though... lots more to change.

          I believe Ricky is working on some K series mounts, since Hasport is taking their sweet time with em. If you try to create some mounts as well, that would double our chances! Rebuild that K and get it in there!

            I SERIOUSLY considered the J30 swap...and honestly, I imagine the K mounts not being far from ours...come for a walk with me...

            The J30 mounts/design is a mirror image of the F. The tranny's in front of the driver, rather than the passenger like on our cars. There aren't any abundant manual trannies for the J30- just from the TL/CL-S and the newest Accord coupe. So I designed a thin planetary gearbox to reverse the direction of the output so we could use it with our trannies. That+custom mounts= J30+5spd in our cars. The engines are cheap...I dunno how much that output reverser would be but honestly, the most difficult part would be getting the interfaces made.

            As far as the K-series, on Kseries.org I'm pretty sure someone was working on mating the K20A head to the H22 block. It was a highly classified government drag racing thing though so all that was known was that it was possible that someone attempted it. I believe there was a picture of an H22 headgasket on a K20A head to confirm the compatibility. Also, I hear the tranny mounts are the same. In any case, somehow, I feel that the K would fit in our cars w/o much fuss or drama...I wish you had a CB shell hangin around to confirm that...

            Good luck w/your projects though...

              The V6 Accords have a slightly longer front, I believe...

                The 5th gens did...but those used the C27A. The 6th gen Accord noses are the same.

                  Interesting... Are the F23 motors notably different than the F22A? And more importantly, are the J30 and F23 engine bays the same?

                  If you can overcome the transmission issue, it would be impressive.

                    I was gonna ask the same thing about the F22/F23. And Honda's cheap...look at the F22/H22...I doubt they'd redesign the whole engine bay for the V6. It's easier to relocate mounts on a block than re-engineer a front end.

                    Another equally feasible and ridiculous idea I had for the J30 was to just turn it around and run it backwards...only problem there would be the accessories, and getting custom cams made. The gearbox idea actually probably makes more sense, and the way I designed it allows for a really thin design (like 1 gear wide tops+the casing).
