if you're not changing the code of the program it's not hacking...but these changes as well as others are pretty widely known. I also change proxy pipelining to true, but you shouldn't change the max requests to such a high number. I don't think you'll get in trouble with things like DDOS, but I'm told having the max requests much higher than default can tend to make pictures refuse to load. I set it from 4 to 8. Also make sure to create nglayout.initialdisplay if it's not there already and set it to 0. This changes the time the web page takes to start displaying (in milliseconds). On a slow machine, and/or slow connection it's more pleasant to have it set to about 1000 (or 1 second). Download firetune and you can have a program do it all for you.
