Drunk Driving is more serious than this street racing, i had 4 cousins killed by a drunk cop in Sunset Park Brooklyn that where walking back home from the bus stop, the cop never stopped at the light and killed all 4, i admit it though i street race and have a team that only place money runs, not for fun, and the way we do it, we block off the whole highway so nobody is on that strip but only the two cars running!!

Well not to advocate for street racing but here in NYC there are a few industrial parks that would make excellent venues for sanctioned drag racing, but the NYPD stands to make more money collecting fines, auctioning cars and picking bodies up off the street than to work with the street racers to open up some kind of weekly legal races. If they just set up some kind of membership or per-event fee I think a lot of people would sign up...damn near every Civic/Integra/A3 VW in NYC/LI is owned by an enthusaist, and the cost of setting stuff up for the races is basically the cost of having paramedics on hand and setting up some barriers.
Usually when I hear of street racing accidents being fatal it's either someone just being a complete idiot (i.e. running a very red light) or it's some kids who just started driving. If the local gov'ts would set up some kind of graded licensing and advanced driving schools, as well as find a way to keep dangerous kids off the streets, there would def. be less deaths. If I had the time I would really lobby for some kind of sanctioned track in NYC, because we need one badly. They see the interest but would rather lock people away and sell their cars than work with them and make less money.
