So I just got this new Motorola E815 phone, so I'm wondering what exactly you say when you "lose" your phone? Because we've got a 2yr deal and so we can't get new phones for 2yr....and I know I'll want something different sooner than that.

After 1 year of service without missing any payments, or filing any kind of insurance claim due to theft or accidental damage, theyll let you upgrade.
They aren't going to release the phone until mid next year supposedly.... That crap changes all the time though... They want to wait until Samsung releases their version of the razor... Also, if you "loose" your phone, insurance will replace it with the same phone...

is that some unwritten rule? ive never heard that before. i just thought you were only able to upgrade after your contract was up... in this case i have a 2year.

im not sure exactly how it works. but a friend of mine, who has verizon, maybe it works differently, i dont know. anyways, he lost his phone, which happened to be recently replaced with a newer model, and they gave him the upgraded phone instead. i was thinking about doing the same. i figure once the v3x comes out, theyre not going to sell the "old" razr v3 anymore... so if i lose mine, they would give me whats now available.
Ok, I just talked to a cingular rep. The phone is SUPPOSED to come out in the 4th quarter of 2005.... Lol... Which is now... Sooooo..... They are somewhat late on it... Jan or Feb is what it is looking like... Now, when you make an insurance claim sometimes they send you a new phone and sometimes they send you a re-furbished phone. More often they send you a re-furbished phone..... The phone that they send you is not going to be in a brand new perfect box w/ all the accessories etc... So that would stop you from exchanging it at a store.. Hope this helps....

damn, good lookin out. guess ill sleep on it till ii have a fool proof plan.
or you could buy any phone you want off ebay, people sell unlocked phones there all the time and all you need to do is charge it and put your sim card into it
If you feel comfortable paying $400 for a $200 phone.... be my guest buddy. All EBAY auctions for unlocked phones are rediculously over-priced from what Ive seen.
DrLove.... Im just repeating what I was told by a customers service rep over the phone, and what a cingular store employee told me. Plus thats what they let me do this past August.
It looks a bit cooler first of all... Other then that it now has a slot for a microSD memory card slot, iTunes music player, and they upgraded the camera to a 1 megapixel camera.... I think that is it... They had to make one that would be better/same as the new samsung mm-a900... The samsung is a much better phone in my opinion though....
It does do all that...plus, I personally I don't care about a phone being that thin. It's still smaller than the VX7000 I had before....and it's put together more solidly than the other one. I'd be afraid that something as thin as that Razr would break easily.
Also, just measured my 8100 when closed... it's just barely under 1"... could be 1" exactly... +/- 1mm or so
Not that this matters for anyone shooting themselves in the foot with Cingular... this is a CDMA phone for Verizon. And no, I don't work for VZW...
EDIT: ask Mauricio (excalibur02) if you want... he has the same phone
or if you read what else i wrote there, you can buy one and unlock it yourself free of charge, thats what i had to do for my current cell phone and it was dirt cheap
Good for you.
I did read what you posted.
That still doesnt change the fact that phones listed on EBAY that are already unlocked are extremely overpriced, which was all that I was stating. Either way, the only way to get a "cheap" phone is to purchase it with a 2 year plan, or upgrade sometime during your contract, if they let you, like I did.
Unlocking a phone is simple, but one way or another youre going to have to pay for the phone. Unless youre gonna do what Dr is going to do.
What Dr. is going to do won't work.... Sorry... When you get an insurance phone it comes in an all white box, unmarked, and usually no charger... Remember, you lost your phone, not your charger...
