The City has to pay for my car dmg!

Alright so the town I work in is going through a heavy revamp, redoing the roads and a bunch of other junk, well I get off work and not more than a block from my work I go to take a right turn. Just as I take the turn I see it.... The Sewage pipe cap from hell.. Standing there, tall, proud, menacingly taunting me, saying, I know your going to hit me, it's inevitable. Well it was right, I saw the damn pipe just before it disappears from my sight, I hit the brakes but not soon enough. The pipe catches my front cross member and my car comes to a hault like I slammed into a brick wall.

I get out of the car clearly pissed off that this pipe is that exposed from the road without being marked especially on a area of road that is completely unlit by street lights.

Thinking that hey I was doing roughly 5 mph it can't be that bad I get into my car and back it up, I see the pipe come into view again, this time completely torn out of the road bits of asphalt surround it. My car wobles and squeeks as it backs down the road. I get under a street light to check the damge.... There it is, my front passenger side wheel sitting back against the rear of the fender..... Wonderful.... There goes my new suspension is what goes through my head.

I call the cops, cop was cool took a bunch of pics told me what to do and what to say to make certain the city pays for it. Next day comes and I get to the body shop, they quote the dmg just by looking at it on the ground without checking frame dmg and looking at parts and quote me at 1011$ Says by the time they're done it's going to run the city's insurance company roughly 2500$ and by that price their insurance company may want to try and total my car out. I tell the guy it'll cost them one helluva lot more than that for them to total my car out cause I'll demand atleast 10k give up and total my baby. We both have a good laugh while I die a little on the inside...

Well I'll finish the story when the story comes to a finish but here's the morale of the beginning. 5 mph can really fuck up your car......

you might WANT to total it out . . . sadly, it prolly will never drive the same again if theres frame damage

O damn, right now they have the same shit all over NY. They tmporarily grind like 4 inches off of the road, and leave the manhole covers almost as high as a damn curve, i had so much fun trying to dodge them on my way to school today.

it depends...if they total the car and try to take the whole thing to the junkyard, he could press legal if he has receipts...thats why i'm gonna keep the receipts on all my big $ mods like my exhaust and my body kit... otherwise *twirls his fingers* its really guess and go, but good luck getting your money outta the city gov...

Yea was it in the shoreline area? I see huge things sticking out of the ground there ever since they started that road work bullshit.

i know from experience, that unless you specifically have it on your insurance that your car has rider's for all of your extra parts on it, that their insurance wont cover that extra value of the car...even if you put $10,000 of parts onto it, unless your insurance covers that, they wont pay for it...

I've got the mayor backing me and Iv'e gone through similar experiences with family members I talked an insurance company into 16k for a 11k Volvo little over 2 months ago, I know exactly what to say that will scare insurance agents into large settlements. Also the wagon is still KBB'd at 4900 Nicety of picking up a fully loaded EX Wagon with only 106k on the Odo. All you really have to do is press an insurance company with factors to the accident, how inconvient it is, mention a lawyer multiple times, and how much that vehicle plays a part in your life........ If you really want to get cheap just throw in you haven't felt right since the accident and they'll toss money down your throat just to shut you up.
