hey guys, my mom owns a 93 civic and she was tellin me that some hondas with an M in the vin number instead of a J is made in mexico. is that true? and if so what models/years.

yes honda has plants in Mexico. So does toyota, ford. and the biggest mexican automotive proprietors, CHEVROLET!
Honda's are made in canada too. Why is it a big deal?

The first character of all VINs is the country of origin. Just look at the first one and this will tell you what country it was manufactured in. Here are a few examples...
1 - U.S.
2 - Canada
3 - Mexico
J - Japan
S - England00 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 4X4
92 Honda Accord LX
95 Honda Civic CX
