I set up a Remote desktop on my home computer and I wanted to connect to it at work, but for some reason it is not connecting. Now I have had my friend connect to it at his house and it works fine. Is there something I have to get around at work thats blocking it?

Hard to say without checking out the setup there. Your office could be blocking all outbound ports on their firewall except for the ones specifically needed (POP3, SMTP, HTTP, etc) and even smtp could be blocked if they're using Exchange or Notes since it's unneeded for the workstations. Even worse, they might not let anything out from workstations at all... and funnel all your port 80 traffic through a proxy server.

    Try going here http://www.tightvnc.com

Download and install that on your desktop at home. You can attach to the java-based VNC service using a web browser. If that still doesn't work, then you really may be screwed...if they really are shutting down ports like that.
