Can you use a boot disc with the new PS2 (the skinny one)?

My roommate just traded in both of his semi-working original PS2s and a buttload of DVDs.... he came home with a new mini-PS2. That thing is TINY!

Well, as soon as I saw the fliptop, I immediately thought "boot disc!"

I just got my DVD burner, and I want to be able to... um... back up games. (actually, my roommate has an annoying habit of buying and reselling games, so we never have the chance to go play "Backyard Wrestling" or "Monster Hunter" when we feel like it...)

Does anyone know if a boot disc works? I know I can find some online, but I'd rather ask if someone I trust has actually done it!

ive always known sony was stupid.. but not retarded...

im sure they know and have known about the boot discs. so why they would make a system that makes pirating games so much easier?

im sure they did something to their version... ive heard the action replay dosent work with those, so i dunno....

    well, good luck deev

deev, i used to back up games on my ps2 all the time. boot discs suck, they freeze and only work when they feel like it. plus i bet sony already is a step ahead of you and makes the ps2 reset or something when you open & close the lid. best bet is to just spend a bill ($100) and send out your ps2 to get modded with a chip. that way you can copy any game and it WILL work. Ive done it, its cool. personally i don't play too many games so meh. my ps2 just collects dust now.

My roommate doesn't want to chip the system... kinda sucks, but I understand. It's a lot of money to waste if it gets screwed up!

i dont know exactly how it works, but it allows you to play "burnt" and import games

i thought you had to do some chip swapping in order for this process to work.

yeah the new ps/2 is tiny...its like a premature baby playstation. they make the old ps/2 look like a big clunk of junk.

they warranty it (the place doing the mod) i think for 2 years. Boot discs are an uber-cheap alternative...but you get what you paid for. I can probably send you mine (old boot dvd & cd) if you want, just PM me and cover shipping.

From what ive heard from friends, the boot disks dont work that well with the slim line PS2s. They say it freezes alot or just doesnt work at all.I dont know personally though. I myself would just chip it. I dont see why people are so scared to have their system chipped. Its easy as hell, you just have to be careful, thats all. As long as youre not a retarded dipshit that cant follow directions, and you have a good thin tipped soldering iron, you can do it yourself.

Has your friend noticed how insanely hot the bottom of the thin PS2 gets? Its nuts, but so far, no one I know has had any problems. So...

I knew a buddy of mine that modded his 1st ps2. And then ran burned games on it.

Ended up having to keep the cover loose just so you could get it to run right to play the burnt games.

there's something you can buy that will press on the lid sensors for the new slim ps2... and then you can put in the swap magic disc... but you can always go even cheaper and use the straw trick with the swap magic disc.. go to http://forums.afterdawn.com/ for more info
