    Limewire - How Bad??

    the answer is pretty bad...

from my experience tonight.... I stick with my answer

appearntly(sp?) it comes with a virus or a virus leaks into your system somehow and disable the task manager (ctrl alt del) and the registry editor. it also makes your computer runs a little slower, and limewire will pop up every time you completely shut the program down. it starts on Windows Startup, even if you have your settings to not do that.

its a bitch... it took me a while to figure out how to fix it

its all over the limewire.com forums...

so limewire users... even pro! (thats what i had) CAUTION!!

Did you upgrade your Limewire pro to a newer version? This is the reason why when I find a perfectly good version, I stick with it.

Oddly enough, I don't have this problem.

Well the virus problem is a big thing when downloading period. its like having unsafe sex, you risk for rewards. The would/could lead to your ctrl-alt-del problem. run ad-aware, spy-bot and virus scan then scan disk (clean disk whatever) and Defrag. you should be fine. Just look for the busiest link for when you download. try and stay way from the links that have only 1-20 "hosts" 1. they are faster with more, 2. less chance of them pen-pointing you to pick on, 3. normal better quaility. But another trick is to move all the files you host. find the limewire program file and view all that is under there. You should see you music/videos whatever you download. Make a new folder and store them in there after every time you are on Limewire. it speeds up downloads and keeps people from "connecting" to your computer.

OK, you're starting to scare me. On my laptop, I once d/l'ed a copy of like windows something or other. It changes the basic theme of your windows layout. Anyway, I get done d/l ing it and I get a whole slew of problems. First is after unzipping the file, It crashed.

After restarting I had thousands upon thousands of zip files all the same size as the original (851.7 kb). They all ranged from porn to video games to movies, and all were the same described size. I guess you would call this an "info bomb" as at least a few gigs of space were now taken up. Fortunately, the destruction stayed in only one folder and i was simply able to delete the folder.

Secondly, I got the same problem with limewire restarting every 30 secs., though at the time it seemed more frequently than that. And if memory serves, I couldn't access the control panel. In addition, with limewire opening so often, I couldn't navigate throughout my computer at all, as the windows were closed everytime Limewire started up.

In the end, system restore literally saved my ass. This was on my new laptop, btw. A dell inspirion 9300. It's funny though, cause since then I stay away from those sized files and have had no new problems (knock on wood). Maybe the viruses and such only occur when you open their subsequent files?

Thats weird that you guys are having issues with Limewire. I've never really had any issues with it before. I've been using it a lot more lately too.

I used to be a big WinMX fan, but now it just pisses me off. I can completely take down my firewall and I still can't get any songs to download. It will just timeout, even on people that have 30 something ping. Once in a while I'll get lucky and get one to download, but for the most part I've about had it with winmx. Limewire always starts my downloads right away and I usually get 40-50kb/s which rocks.

Notice all the problems you all are having are from downloaded files. its not limewire itself its the files you download. It just happens to use Limewire as a host to lauch the programs.

First it was napster, then you had to pay for it.
Next it was kazaa, it turned to crap AND you had to pay for it.
Then it was Limewire, now it's truning to crap, but it's hanging on....

It goes from one to the next....I don't put faith in them, I just wait for it to go down the tubes and then the next one shows up...

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,

i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.
