    what are you here for?

I've been noticing lately, people who seem like they ought to be taken for car people often times shouldn't. Like, I'll talk to friends and people from car forums who are doing this and that to their car and talk about cars all the time and all this good stuff, but when you ask them what the plans are, they say, oh, I'm going to do something like I/H/E, lower it, put some rims on it, tint it, stereo, pedals and a shift knob and be done. The cliche "of course" stuff and nothing else. Sometimes the reason is to save for something like school or a house or something vital like that. Cool, but what I don't understand is that more often than not it's just that no one really seems to have an interest in a project beyond that point, they'd rather just do that, then just drive it for a whole grip of years, then buy the STi or Evo and leave that stock and just drive it. And yet these same people surround themselves by people who (at least come across as such) are gung-ho about pulling a full overhaul of a car, and fill their conversations with car related topics.

So I'm here because I love cars, I love working on cars, I love taking what a factory offers and produces in uniform, and making it a work of art with more speed, more style, better handling, make it more suited to my tastes, and more show worthy, and I love seeing the benifit of the hard work and personalization. Because of this, I enjoy being surrounded by people who enjoy the same thing, and because I need guidance both to understand the best way to do things, and to find the best deals.

So what's your deal? Why are you at a car forum?

        Your mother.

        j/k

I've been around the community for nearly 2 years , its actually one of the very first forums where no one treated you like an idiot on your first day...I notice alot of boards are like that nowadays..spare no mercy for the people who are n0obies to their site.

Cb7tuner is where its at but Id say Im mostly here because of the fact that mainly alot of others show the same interest in these cars..and have a knack for keeping these cars around forever.

Shit i get hated on everytime i went to the stretraces when i first got my h22. They where always sayin no hes sprayin nitrous hes shootin fireballs from out of his exhaust. Its funny because all i had was custom piping with a obx cai. What shames me is popole that buy cars and talk about hookin it up never do it. OR people who have money talk about buying cars and never do it sooner or later youll have to mod it and they be puttin sheap shit on their cars like its some kind of big accomplishment i jsut look the other way and shake m head like ohwell.

I'm here because I like to learn about my car. I have a lot done, and I plan to do a lot more (to the extent that I bought a second CB7 to boost ). I really don't DO much to the car... more planning and learning, since actually doing things takes time and money. I love the boards because you can sit and talk to like-minded people about something you love for hours on end, and it costs nothing. You can do it in the middle of the night, or in the heat of the afternoon... times when working on the car isn't practical. I can honestly say that I have a wealth of "book knowledge" from this board... not as much experience as many, and no money spent on real books, but from hanging out here, I feel I know a good deal. I'm by no means a mechanic, but I'm not afraid to play around under the hood either!

I see nothing wrong with people who don't want to do much to their car, but want to hang out on a car forum anyway... I mean, just putting I/H/E on a car shows that you have at least SOME interest. Some people don't find it practical to try to draw lots of power from a 14 year old 125hp single cam motor... Those same people might not see turbo as a practical option, nor be able to justify the expense of putting a $2000 10 year old motor into their car... 200hp or not! Also, those people might not know any better... and this is where they can learn!
