Sony was that scared of Xbox that they stooped lower than Nintendo (who has been accused of unfair bussiness practices several times) ever thought of. yeah im pretty sure the 360 is backwards compatible.but anways...i have the music movie player for my sp and i have a bunch of the compact flash memory cards for my digital camera so i didnt have to by thoe just for the sp....so i defenitly like the little music player and i bought it for like 20 bux not 70 or whatever u guys were saying it was....so i think it was a great buy and even a bunch of my friends with psp's were going to trade me like an xbox and shit for the little music player for the sp they liked it so much....the psp is to expensive....i will wait for it to go down or hopefully by then microsoft will have a hand held even though i havent heard any talk of it...it would be good im sure
and i personally think the 360 is going to kill the ps3....i have read several places that what they have been advertising already and showing off at the e3 and stuuf is only half of what the system really is and that there is going to be three types of the 360 that you can buy so im sure the most expensive one is going to be dope as shit and a lot better then ps3...go halo3!!! lol but im sure i will buy and ps3 and revolution...

no no, it was in EGM like 4 years ago, it had a break down and everything
back when the SNES was around Nintendo wanted to compete with the Sega CD and hired Sony as their "partner" for comping up with the drive components. nintendo didnt like the way sony ran their business and got rid of them, and went with Philipps, which is their current manufacturer for the DVD drive in the cube. So sony took their design they came up with from nintendo, and realesed the playstation as a slap in the face. There was never going to be a "Nintendo Playstation" it was going to be a Super Nintendo CD.
they stooped lower than Nintendo (who has been accused of unfair bussiness practices several times)
But Sony is currently dealing with a lawsuit from a company that created the DualShock technology. Why? because sony used that technology without even asking for permission.
Tell me thats not unfair business practices.

I know that Sony has pulled some stuff, thats what I was saying, just not that particular time. I'll have to look back over my video game mag's, but I know I read an article that said that Nintendo was the one dragging their feet on the Playstation. The Super Nintendo CD was a completely different item that Nintendo was supposedly going to come out with and never did (just like the device that was supposed to let you play regular NES games on the SNES). If Sony was the one messing around, how could they have beat Nintendo to the market with the Playstation? And Nintendo didn't go to Phillips till years later, seeing as how the N64, which came out after the Playstation, was cartridge-based, and Phillips had its own system, the 3DO, out at this time.
As for Nintendo being shady, I recall hearing that Nintendo refused to allow stores to sell the NES for any price other than what Nintendo said, or to put the NES on sale at all. I deffinately remember that, at least around here, everytime that the NES went "on sale", the regular price mysteriously went up so that the sale price was exactly the same as the regular price was at any other time. Legally, stores are allowed to change prices on any item they wish (within reason, so that there's no price gouging), and the manufacturer is only allowed allowed to suggest a price (hence the MSRP, manufacturer's suggested retail price).

Quote from darkwatcher.psxfanatics.com
http://darkwatcher.psxfanatics.com/console/psx.htm
Japanese electronics company Sony’s involvement in the videogame industry began as a manufacturer of a custom sound chip used in Nintendo’s SuperNES console....They[Nintendo] immediately partnered up with Sony to develop their CD based system. Sony went on to develop two units. One was a 16-bit add-on for the Super Famicom / NES that sat underneath the system and allowed CD based gaming (SNES CD), and another as a stand-alone unit. Initially the agreement allowed Sony the ability to license CD based games for the system. Nintendo was not willing to relinquish control over software licensing. They dropped Sony from the project, and approached Phillips to develop the add-on.
Phillips was NOT introduced years after the SNES, they were adopted by Nintendo right after they dropped Sony like a hot potato.
and I found this on Google:
http://www.mwgl.org/print.php?newsid=EEEEApuklVmTelLkAV
News:
In case you haven’t heard about it yet, apparently Sony and Microsoft have been sued over the use of their controllers. The lawsuit comes from Immersion Corporation. Sony and Microsoft are accused of violating 16 patent claims with their controllers. The lawsuit targets the force feedback or rumble feature of their controllers.
Microsoft apparently dealt with Immersion out of court, and are able to use to force feedback design, but Sony fought the lawsuit. Things took a nasty turn for Sony though as it seems they have lost the latest court decision. Sony of course has appealed, but if they lose Sony will have to make a deal with Immersion or possibly be forced to recall ALL Dual Shock controllers.
The latest report out says the court has ordered Sony to stop all sales of the PS2 in the US. I have not been able to confirm this report, but if this true, it will launch Microsoft into the #1 home console spot, and could end up very nasty in the end for Sony.

From the article you posted:
Sony went on to develop two units. One was a 16-bit add-on for the Super Famicom / NES that sat underneath the system and allowed CD based gaming (SNES CD), and another as a stand-alone unit. Initially the agreement allowed Sony the ability to license CD based games for the system. Nintendo was not willing to relinquish control over software licensing. They dropped Sony from the project, and approached Phillips to develop the add-on. Ken Kutaragi, the Sony researcher who had worked on the SNES PlayStation prototype and the sound chip for the SNES (Sony SPC700), did not want to give up the hard work put into the unit.
For the controller thing, I never said Sony didn't do anything else wrong, (hence the part I posted earlier about the really good reason to dislike Sony), but if the problem is over controller's rumble feature, why were only Sony and Microsoft sued? Nintendo had rumble for the N64 as controller plug-in packs, and built into their GC controllers, and most of the controllers that have come out for PC's in the last 5 years have had rumble built in.
As for "Japanese electronics company Sony’s involvement in the videogame industry began as a manufacturer of a custom sound chip used in Nintendo’s SuperNES console", so what? Microsoft's involvement in the video game industry began when a version of their WindowsCE OS was used in Sega's Dreamcast, and Nintendo and Sega both started off making games for the Atari 2600.

So based on that, Sony DID develope a system that was to have the PlayStation name (whether it was the add-on or the stand-alone one isn't made clear in the article). Nintendo dropped Sony because they did not want to honor the agreement they originally made, which makes them the "bad guy" out of the deal, not Sony. With the Nintendo/Phillips thing, the way you worded it in your earlier post sounded as if they have been partnered together ever since, and since a.) no SNES cdrom add-on was ever released, b.)Phillips came out with there own system around the same time as the PlayStation, and c.)the N64, which came out after both the PlayStation and the 3DO had no cdrom support, this is highly unlikely.

damn how did i miss this? holy shit kinda late but here goes...
you bring up good points but failed to realize WHY sony and microsoft were sued, and not nintendo.
nintendo developed their OWN rumble feature for their snes, and have continued to do so with their other systems. Sony is the one with unfair business practices...
and lets face it, if it wasnt for halo, no one gives a shit about microsoft, so for arguments sake, lets leave them out.
and i dont understand why it makes nintendo "the bad guy" for dropping Sony. In their agreement, Sony wanted to control licensing for the SNES CD(which was designed to be a stand alone along with a seperate add on). I dont think you see what sony was trying to do.
Controlling licensing for nintendo, by a major japanese conglomorate, will inevitably lead to a hostile take over of Nintendo by sony.
Nintendo's the bad guy? If i owned a business, im not going to hand over all of my hard work for years to some company just because i want a neat little add on.
Also, nintendo had very much to do with philips 3DO. The legend of zelda, along with a super mario game was relased for the 3DO. the Philips 3DO was another "branch" of nintendo... Kinda like acura/honda.
since the 3DO didnt obviously sell well, Nintendo used this as a red flag to realize that they were not ready for a CD-ROM based system. Hence the N64 cartridge based system. Why do you think they realised their two bestselling games on it? Just to see how they would fair.
then, Nintendo finally got their head out of their ass, realizing that if they want to stay in the video gaming industry, they have to "up" their technology. Enter gamecube...Last edited by lil_dcb7; 08-31-2005, 05:06 PM.

Actually, I've taken apart both N64 rumble packs and a Microsoft controller, and the rumble is accomplished the exact same way, so if that other company patented "the rumble feature", then Nintendo violated this patent also.
Not true. The RPG of the Year for every year since it came out has been an XBOX title. To bad they don't have a great many RPG's, but quality over quantity.
The original agreement gave Sony licensing rights for games for both the add-on and stand-alone system, according to the article. This means that Nintendo made that deal, and then backed out on it.
It didn't say they would control the licensing, just that they could license their own games for the systems they designed. Nintendo's licensing rights for their own systems would not be taken away, nor would this be able to be used to take over Nintendo, which is also a major japanese conglomorate.
They wouldn't be handing over their hard work. See above.
Nintendo had nothing to do with the 3DO. I have an issue of Game Informer that lists every Zelda game ever made, and there is no mention of one for the 3DO. There were two Zelda's for the Phillipds CDi, which were made due to a licensing deal with Phillip's that allowed them to use Nintendo registered characters in their own games. Nintendo did not wotk on these two Zelda games at all, and they are listed among the most horrible games of all time.
Nintendo didn't put out a cd-rom add-on for the snes because the Sega CD sold horribly. But if they had made the N64 with a cd-rom, they would have kept the Final Fantasy series, and Squaresoft in general making games for them. They also would have probably kicked Sony butt, and pushed them out of the game market.
To bad it dosn't have full-sized cd's, or it woulda done alot better than it has
er, i got mxed up, i forgot where the 3d0 came up at, but your right, it was the CDi.
and i see your point with the rumble. but nintendo had this feature since the snes... i dont thingk they were many people to copy that technology from at the time
and i dont believe that nintendo would write up a contract willing to relenquish(sp?) the ability to license their own software... it wouldnt be a smart move.
"It didn't say they would control the licensing, just that they could license their own games for the systems they designed"
Nintendo saw it as "it has the NINTENDO name on it, NINTENDO should make the big descisions on weither or not what games are able to be played on THEIR system, even though sony develpoed it"
i just personally hate sony. through experience. their excuises why something doesnt work are bullshit. and i just thought it was "funny" in a way, how they started in this biz.
you bring up good point man, and this is fun. your not a DICK, like some of the ones at other game places. pretty intelligent.
nice argument bro, if you have any more points, i'd gladly listen... Im still going to hate sony and not give a shit about microsoft. (expect for halo and another one or two games.) im not really into video games like i was when i was younger. but its still fun to whip out the genesis or the NES once in a while.

Hey, I don't like Sony that much either. Notice what I said in my first post about Sony in this thread? That's about the lowest thing I've heard of a video game company doing. I was just trying to point out that Nintendo isn't exempt from doing stupid things, or pulling stunts in their business dealings. Personally, I like Nintendo, but ther last couple console systems have been trailing the other consoles in the market. Even the snes technically took a back seat to the Genesis, though the sales gap wasn't as much as it is in this current generation. Seriously, though, and the computer technician in me kinda hates this statement, but I think Microsoft is gonna kick Nintendo and Sony's butt this next generation of consoles. I personally hope that the PS3 comes in 3rd behing the 360 and Revolution.

dumb, dumb, DUMB move. they FISRT fuked up when they didn't have CD-ROM support with their 64.
and i gotta argue with you on this, LOL, but I dont think 360 will be as strong as the other two. it dosent have an edge in the market where video gaming is so big.... Japanese market. from what ive read. they dispise Microsoft.
think about it, too... they dont really have an edge like they did last time with the online gameplay. all the 360 is, is an XB with beefier chips. and wireless goodies. but thats nothing compared to the revolutions controllers im not just saying that as a nintendo fanboy. im saying that out of being stunned.
and Sony ofcourse will come in top, dispite its overwhelming price. just because....? you guessed it...
its a SONY!
i personally am going to aim for the revolution because of the fact that you can acess classic nintendo games back from the NES days and play it on the rev. that and resident evil 5... but thats on every next gen system

I dunno man if I had enough money to buy two competing game systems I would. I just think the Ps3 will somewhat come out on top.
Then again the 360 has Xbox Live which is an awesome internet gaming service...versus Sony Online which from what Ive heard really sucks.
When is the ps3 due out anyway?
