    PS2 Mod Chips...

Well a co-worker got a PS2 for Christmas an now he's all over me to find out about mod chips and stuff for the PS2, he says if I find one he'll buy two one for me and one for him so I'm doing research now

Anyhow the thing I've found that seems like the best bet is called a Slide card or swipe card. Anyone have any experiance with this? I'd like something that doesn't require me to open the PS2 and lose any functionality or warranty.

Also how exactly do you burn the games?

    Thanks.

I think you have to chip it for it to play bootleg videogames but you better hope you dont fry I like the japspec system better it plays american and jap games on it aswell even though i may not understand the language too well it feels good to play a hot game. i think chipping is like 20 bucks but i would only do it if i had a warrantee

you will have to open your ps2 if you want a mod chip. if you dont want to open it up, then that slide card is the one for you. its basically a cd/dvd swap with a bootable ps2 disc. if you dont care about swapping the discs, then i would get that.

      happy modding!

I don't mind swapping discs, That's how we had to do it back in the days for the DreamCast.

Do you know how to actually copy the games? Is there a special software I have to use like back in the days for the DreamCast?

        Thanks.

not really sure about special software to copy ps2 games. I've never done it, you can probably find something on the net about it. google should work. i'll look into it and post whatever i find.

Its like this, You really dont need anything to play a backup, just a gameshark. You can use a knife instead of the card. I did it for a year. The only problem is besides the swapping is that you CANNOT play all games. This also goes for the no solder modchips. If a game is over the 74 minute cdr which you need an 80 minute cdr, any information beyond the 74 minute point will not be recognized so the game most likely wont work or a level or video wont play. If you have a dvdr you need a legal game that has a larger table of contents than the backup game or it wont work. The largest games are GTA3, Vice City, and Devil May Cry. Anyone of these games should be able to boot up 98% of all the games out their. Im not sure about anything recent because i slowed down a bit.

So in other words to play a dvd backup
              1) Put in gameshark
              2) When it loads press ejectand put in devil may cry or anyother large game
              3) go to start game without codes
              4) Grab a knife or credit card to open ps2 put in backup use knife to close it back
              5) press ok

To load a cdr skip step 2

But you can just buy a modchip and skip all of that and simplify things. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

buy a dms 3.. and you can even send your ps2 to companies to mod it for you. or get a friend thats good at soldering to do it. and also most swaps dont play EA games or a few others. and to copy games you can burn a 1:1 copy using Alcohol 120% with SLOW speeds, 1/2/4x and since most games now are dvd you need a dvd burner which can also burn 1:1 but you can also download them off programs like mIRC and for some of the dvd games, some groups "rip" them to fit on CDRs(rip movies/music, ect) and even some sites "sell" burned copies of games. alot of options out there

just leave me a reply or pm if i confused you about it

So Basically this "Slide Card" is just a stupid peice of plastic that you use to pry the CD tray open? I guess if you press the eject button something resets so you force it to open? So you are basically using a DVD based game as your "Boot disk"?

What's DMS 3, I'm great with soldering as I chip ECU's and etc. that's not what I'm worried about I'd just rather leave the warranty seal intact. What's Alcohol 120%? Some type or burning software?

DMS 3 is the modchip you buy, i think it has 23 wires to solder. and Alcohol 120% is a cd burning software, for burning ISO & BIN/CUE (downloaded) cd images.

and as far as the warranty seal is concerned, if youre looking to copy games, if your ps2 breaks, simply buy a new one, trade internal guts and take the new one with old broken guts back to the store

or there are ways to remove the warranty seal or ways to obtain them for that matter. anything is possible

but when buying a modchip its good to get from a reputable source because there are so many fakes around. A buddy of mine bought a DMS3 from www.mod-chip.com and it was a legit one so thats where i plan on ordering from in the future. and if you have any more questions i can try to get answers best i can.
