    movie making

What programs do you guys use to create little movies with transitions, voice overlay, and all the works to make a little marketing video!?

right now i am using pennicle, only because it came with the camcorder!

any good sites/tutorials on making a good viewing movie?

    Adobe Premiere.

However, that program is extremely expensive and totaly unrealistic for your situation probably. But, you can download a 30 day trial from the adobe website. Its a little complicated at first but you kind of get used to it. It's most likely a lot better than the pinnacle software and windows movie maker.

yea... for something like that involving multiple audio tracks and such, you're going to need more than just windows movie maker. i don't know too much about pinnacle, but its probably just as basic.. ideal for making home video montages and such.

adobe premiere is good, but i've noticed the program will freeze up on you or run slow if your computer isn't up to par. in order to properly run most professional video editing software, its usually reccomended to have an apple operating system (G4, G5). the only way to tell how well the software will work.. is to test the trial version and see how smooth it is. i'm not sure you're able to save your work on trial versions though.

if you're set on using voiceovers and music together (which i assume if its a marketing video), the only other way around is to create ONE audio track separately in an audio editing program such as cool edit pro. then, in that program, you can mix your narrative with your music selection together as one .wav file and import it as one track into windows movie maker (which you should have). but this will take some skill in coreographing your audio with the video. you'd probably need to actually edit the video clips together first - keeping in mind what you want to do with the sound - and THEN edit your sound together working off of the final cut of the VISUAL part. this method is a little tricky and requires you to have a good audio editing program, but its the only way if you don't have better software or the capability to run it.

I think it would be easier to use premeire, so that he can have multiple audio tracks + it comes with some neat little easy to use transitions. I never tried anything else though.

steve has pretty much said all that needs to be said on Premiere, but another good program which isnt that expensive is Sony Vegas.

its a very very extensive program and alot easier to use than adobe. imo any ways.

and it has just as much transitions if not more options, although i havent explored all of premiere yet.

if i were you, id go with Sony Vegas before spending all that money on Premiere.

Vegas also allowd you to have multiple audio and video tracks. this menas you can add as many songs and voice overs as you want at the same time, on the same prroject without having to go through a seperate audio editor. I LOOOOOOOOOVE Vegas...

steve you really should check it out

yeah, i know about sony vegas. when i'm editing anything with narrative, i actually use avid xpress pro and final cut pro though... they're the industry standard.

h22akkord23, does your workplace have an apple computer? if so, you should actually use imovie. its very similar to windows movie maker, but allows for multiple audio tracks (unlike movie maker). its at about the same level of ease too; pretty much anyone can pick it up. it comes free with the apple operating system... so it should already be on the computer.

Funny thing Ive been meaning to edit some video. I know my gfs father works for Avid and they deal with a whole bunch of video software. i used windows movie maker but I think IMO it kinda sucks for the level of how and what I want the movies to look like.

Hey Steve do you use the Apple G4 for your movies? Since you said the Premire would tend to run slow on some PCs?

yeah, at my school we have editing suites and use all G4s. its just well known that the programs are less likely to error up or crash on them. i'm sure you can use avid editing software or premiere on a windows system too, but the video playback is really choppy/laggy for me (but then again it could be my computer setup). like i said, you can probably try the trial version someone mentioned above and see how well it works with your computer.

yeah i have vegas and premiere and both are good....vegas is a lot easier to use IMO..but next semester i will be using final cut pro for mac which i have heard is the best program out there...just depends on how much u want to do and what you know how to do and the plugins that you have to buy seperatly for premiere and other programs...just get one of those 3 and im sure you wont be let down and just read the tutorials and mess around with whatever one you get and you will soon start to learn new tricks and how to use it...

get Apple's Final Cut Pro or Studio. Many independant and even major movie studios such as MGM use Final Cut Pro.

If you really wanna go super pro (screw Adobe)...get Avid Xpress...the pro movie studio standard!
