This coming weekend im going to be building a gate that opens into my back yard from my driveway and I need some basic design help. Ive attached an image of the design I plan on using to build it and I need your opinions and/or suggestions for it. Is this a good overall design and sturdy enough or should I sketch something else different? What kind of wood should I use for the frame of the gate? Its going to be outdoors and its going to open inward. Take in mind when looking at my design, I have no type of architecture experience so no childish stuff please...im sure this could be done in a weekend so I left the whole weekend open for it…I don’t want to pay someone to do this when I could do it myself. Thanks for the help guys.

Help Building a Wooden Gate

looks good, its kind of hard to say cause you didnt give any dimensions. But pressure treated 2x4s should be good and you could also incorporate an X design rather than having 2 pieces on a 45. Screws and Glue are a must if you want better structural stability.

back...
front...
hmm thats helpful...
looks pretty simple... Now this is the gate itself, right? just the thing that opens a closes?
if so, it should be easy as pie... or cake what ever you prefer...
my only suggestion is to be very patient and attentative while working on the back (to me what looks like a frame?)
good luck with it, bro!

Looks like it should do good.. how wide is it going to be? If its going to be a bit wider, I would suggest getting one of those cables for each door. You would bolt it to upper outer corner, and inner lower, and you can tighten it in the middle, putting that on there now would help in keeping it from sagging.

the top pic is just the frame of the gate im going to build...its basically 2 different frames and its going to open down the middle (open in). im going to put like 2-3 wheels on the bottom of each door so it could roll open easily (previouse gate only has one wheel and i dont think its enough to hold up the weight of the door)...as for dimensions, its going to be 9'6" wide and 6' high
as for using screws and glue, i usually drill a small hole were the screw is going to go in so that it wont split the wood...do i add the wood glue in the hole that i drilled before i screw in the screw correect? or do you mean to glue all the joints together and then screw them down?
pressure treated 2 x 4's for the frame...any type of wood or anything specific?

cedar is usually really good for outside stuff cause it lasts longer, but its also more expensive. prob regular fir is okay to use, dont get pine tho. pre drilling is always a must when dealing with wood, for the exact reason you stated.
glueing the joints is good too. then you might also want to treat it.H22 Prelude VTEC 92-96 200 161 10.6:1 87 90 DOHC VTEC 2157 JDM
