computer registry -- changing name?

i just bought a laptop from my work and it says it's registered to "er" when i go into system options.

can i change it to my name in reg edit? if so, anyone know which section it's under and which string?

i could but i already have stuff installed on here and it would be easier to just change the string options in regedit but i dont know which section and string value it is.

Go into regedit and use the find feature, replace all instances of the criteria "er", restart pc, should be fine.

Start>Run, key in Regedit and press enter. Now in the Left pane, double left click on each of these til you see the contents of the "Current Version" key in the Right pane.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion

Then in the Right pane you should see "Registered Owner". Right click on it and select Modify and change it to what you'd like.

used your method but it's actually the "windows nt" folder and not just windows, but again thanks for the help!
