The joy of doing your own mods thread

    So far, I've...

    ...changed my front rotors.
    ...installed springs
    ...installed a stereo
    ...installed an intake
...tried to change my headlight's optics

and it's been fun. To me, other than being w/my gf, there's prob. few things more fun than working on my car. Anyone else agree?

yeah man i totally agree, the feeling of accomplishing something with your car is so gratifying, there is no better reward.

I've installed my own stereo system! A complete one with amps and all, not just the deck, and i was only 14!

recent mods i did myself, take off hubcaps...

other than that, there are no mods...

Nice to see someone that share the same outlook. I always like learning how to install/fix new things on my Accords and my parent's Accords. First the first time I did a heater core replacement on our 93 LX, now I can do it again if any others go bad. I figure the money you save on labor for all the mods you do, the more you can put into your project. Besides, if someone comes up to you with detailed technical questions on how some particular system on your car was installed or how it works, etc and you can not tell them yourself and have the common, "Sorry, I had it done by a shop, but I do know what they installed...just not much about anything else.".... that just turns me away from talking to that person. I'm always asking technical questions and why keep talking if they have no idea because they haven't done their own work. It's like, sorry you can't help me any, later.

Anyhow, keep it up. Eventually you'll get into some more involved projects and get a larger kickback from it. I can not wait to get the engine mods done on both my projects.

I did almost all the work on my car and i think that i was an exellent experience. I learned much more from doing the work myself than i could have ever learned from watching other people. So after stripping bolts in numerous locations, Breaking stuff and the like i say in the end it all pays off.

i just got fed up one day when i realized how much i was paying on labor alone that i just decided to do all the work myself...since then ive done:

                          full suspension (struts/springs)
                          camber kit x 2
                          upper control arm
                          axles
                          stripped interior
                          exhaust
                          oil pan gasket
                          intake
                          misc gaskets
                          power steering leak
                          short shifter
                          power fold mirrors
                          sidemarkers
                          blacked out headlights
                          blackhousing sidemarkers

the way that i see it is the only way youll ever learn anything about your car is to go hands on...

boy, i wonder where you got that from

                            j/p

but yeah that saying is so true. You know how many head units I went through and hospital visits i went to before i finally figured out that your susposed to disconnect the battery and take off ALL jewelery while installing a car stereo? I lost count when i couldnt get the burn smell outta my hair....

also another thing i learned, never, ever connect the remote wire to the fuse box.... that was expensive....

but now, im pretty pro at car stereo shit. i help all my homies out... my next monster install..? My 300ZX! Stay Tuned1!1!!!1!!
