does anyone know a fix for watching these types of files? im assuming its cause the majority, if not all, are vbr... and when i try to skip around in windows media player, there is always a 5-10sec delay. before the video catches up.

there is no fix , the codec is Microsoft
.. you can convert them to mpeg which is the best or change them to a divx codec with a little bit of delay but the transcodeing may loose quality. 
but yea... there is no fix as to my knowledge ... maby faster computers -
