More like an inch and a 1/2! You can see that its front legs are pressed up against the glass and it backl legs are just passed the ledge. This thing is insane!

that's a type of robber fly.....maybe a Hanging Thief which are common in the south, especially this time of year....i see them at work a lot and let me be the first to tell you, they will bite the SHIT OUT OF YOU....their prey consists of bees, wasps, even hornets if they're big enough and the hornet isn't too heavy to carry........they kick the bugs' asses that humans don't normally like........and yes, i wondered if it would bite and it does.....felt like a damn needle going into my finger........they're quite common, won't bother you if you don't pick it up, but will if necessary......

the crane fly is a lot skinnier, dull in color and usually flies near the tops of celings, and are completely harmless......you'll normally see them bouncing off the ceiling early in the morning after being trapped in a house overnight....you can't hear them fly, but you can hear robber flies fly

Good "National Geographic" info! Yeah I figured it had to be something other than a mosquito but I've never seen anything like that before. It does look like it would bite the shit out of you though because its snout looked straight and sharp like a dagger. I wish I could have took pitures of it with my real camera so you people could see just how evil this thing looked.
