When the car is Nuetral, do the wheels turn in an Automatic?

I went to get my exhaust leak checked at Midas. When the car was on the lift, the front wheels were moving forward. It looked like he left in D4, but he told me its in Nuetral. The wheels turn while in Nuetral with the car off the ground?

Since the muffler was under Midas warranty, I had to go back, otherwise would buy oem. Midas is the biggest ripoff.

Omg , the fuel injection gives enough gass to let the wheels spin around so if it was in d4 the wheels would have been turning.. is there any reason they left it in gear??

anyway neutral is like park except you can roll in nutrel if you are on a hill or unlevel ground , i reved my engine whell driving in neutral when i had automatic ... but that was when i was a ricer.

dont go to midas.. they obviously dont know what neutral is they cant have a licence..

have u ever driven stick? the clutch is the neutral "button". in easy terms this disconects the motor and tranny in a way so the motor gives no power to the tranny and therefore no power to the wheels. same way with auto. the N is like the clutch or like when the shifter is in between gears. but dont use ur auto N like a clutch.

Are you saying they had the car in D4 as it was on the lift? When I saw this, I immediatley went to the tech. and asked if it was in drive. He said it was in Neutral, this way the exahust leak could be located. I even asked the manager and he said the same thing. I dont want these fucxxx Midas to play with my car.

          So, please verify this:

They put the car in Nuetal to place the car in the correct spot for the lift. This is pretty much standard practice. They left the car on in Neutral. Then they raised the car with the lift. The front wheels were moving forward as if it was in D4. Then the car was put down and no movement on the car as it hit the floor.

Do the wheels move forward while the car is on (in Nuetral) and off the ground?

could it be because when he lifted it it rolled the wheels abit , and you have brand new wheel berings and unwarped roaters with perfict alignment it just kept spinning?

i doubt it was in neutral.. it may be your shifter cable linkage is loose and he thought it was in neutral when it was like half in drive.. hapens

The reason I am concernced is because I do not want damage to my transmission. If that asxxhxx left in drive, I am going back tommorrow to confront him. Why the hell did they leave in drive?

By the way, there is no way they left it in drive because when the car is ready to be lifted, it will jump over the bar if it was in drive.

Come on, I need to sleep tonight. No body has anwered my questtion:

With the car completely off the ground and in NEUTRAL and ON, will the front wheels spin because the weight of the car is off the wheels.

Please answer, because I am going to raise hell at Midas tommorrow.

                  Well , it DEPENDS

Where the wheels spining constantly? if they where then the car was NOT in neutral

If the wheels spin for a little bit and stop, you most likely saw abit of a wheel spin and the car was in neutral.

before you shoot your mouth off to midas, Put your car in neutral and check the guage cluster it should show what gear you are in if it said you are in drive and your shifter is beside N for neutral then you have a linkage issue.

yes, the wheels roll in neutral in an automatic. Should you be worried? I dont think so. I dont see what damage could be done if it was left in drive anyways?

                      No problem with the linkage.

The wheels were spinning constantly and both of them. Is there any damage possible because the car was lowered to the floor and the wheels stopped. I made sure they didnt put it into park with the wheels moving while the car was in the car. How can they be so stupid to put it into drive?

I am going to test this: Raise the front side of the car while running and in Nuetral. The wheel better move.

Maybe they had fans or something. If they were spinning and it was in drive.. and nobody was in the car, it would have driven away when it got on the ground, or at least attempted to move.

will having it in drive hurt? no.. only if you were on a rack that you drive on.. then it'll go right off the front.

My guess is you didnt see a fan or a/c vent.... those garages get hot.

I hope you are right. But, when the car came down to the floor, it did not move, only a slight sound when the tires hit the concrete floor.

I am not going to sleep tonight worrying about this.

                            good, you shouldnt be.

BUT.. when I had my tires done at tires plus.. i was about to beat some ass.... he tried to put my car on a center rack.. what a dumbass, so he flew in there, too fast obviously, and BAM.. stopped dead on (not using brakes) I was watching, and my blood pressure rose like the compression in a cylinder about to by hydrolocked. That bitch came in and kinda quietly said to the manager "we have the we are not liable for lowered cars blah blah sign up right," I had already looked, and nowhere to be found. I made him put it on another lift, and checked it out, thankfully it only hit the tow hook. Bent it quite a bit, but didnt touch anything else thank god.

Had it been an inch over, it probably woulda put a hole in the oil pan... then I most likely would have ended up trashing that kids car after mine got all fixed.

Needless to say, I put stockies on and drive the wheels to the tire place now (not tires plus.. they can kiss my white ass, I have had bad service at 3 locations so im done w/that BS chain)

there are too many stupid people that have no care and no intention of caring for others property... i hardly trust them to mount them correctly. My dad had 4 new tires put on, and 3 of them went flat because they put the valve stems on wrong.
