It was kinda cool that they fooled people... even 5-6 years later into not knowing if was real or not...

It was just a movie... made up... the girl has been in other movies since then... and TV shows too...

the blair witch was completely made up too... but based ROUGHLY on a combination of very old myths in surrounding areas... but nothing like what was in the movie...

Now the second one.... completely true...

There was supposedly going to be a thrid one... I guess the guys who did the first one wanted nothing to do with the second one...but they insisted that they be involved in the 3rd... but one of them died a few years ago in a plane crash or something... so who knows if there will be a 3rd...

Oh and while the movie was not totally spine tingling scary... it was kind of freaky... and I remember going camping like a week after seeing the first one... and it was a little hard to fall asleep...lol...

from what i researched BACK IN THE DAY ...

the movie was scripted, however, the fear in some of the scenes was true, for example, they would all go into the woods, but the crew would pack up in the middle of the night and leave sometimes. then the others would be all freaked out during the taping sequences, because the crew would be hidin and messing with them and stuff, making noises and chasing them. there were some parts they screwed with the kids some to get the raw emotion, but otherwise it was all scripted. i think basically the way it was pitched to the kids was to go out and do an expose on the BW, but thats all the people making the movie told them. so they fed their imaginations so much that by the time the kids went into the woods they knew it wasnt true, but were so hyped up on the crap that the producers had been feeding them that the crew was able to screw with the kids to a point. the scene at the end is a good point, because from what i found out, they let the dude in on the secret that morning, and he went "missing" (or whatever the hell happened in the movie, i cant remember) then they planted him at the house in the corner, and the girl came around so freaked out that when she saw him, well, you know.
for being what it was it was tremendously made, although hype had alot to do with its success. to criticize it is kind of hard because as a bare bones movie, yeah, it sucked. but take into account everything behind it and how it made money and how many people waited for it to come out then it was an awesome "scam" more or less. but in the end, its all about the money and we all saw it, so no matter how hard it may have sucked, who laughing now?

a lot of the crew that worked on this movie were students (or graduates) at the university i go to. like everyone else here is saying, it was definitely scripted and created. i think it was a genious idea though. even if a lot of people don't like the way it was shot (motion sickness, etc.) or the plot or whatever.. it gets unique points from me. its hard to make anything original these days in the film industry.

They hype was the key. They had to make it seem real, because the actual content without that suspension of belief was pretty weak. I don't think I would enjoy the movie nearly as much without that question floating in the back of my mind! kool92accord, you are one of the few remaining people that were able to watch that movie 6 years after it's release and still get the full effect
