    So I just found out...

I have to go through chemotheropy.

Anyone on this board gone through it before? Maybe you know someone who has.

Needless to say I'm pretty scared.

Thanks for the support guys. I sure need all I can get right now. I don't really know what to expect. I met some of the chemo patients today and they all seemed very cool and encouraging. Two of them showed me the port hole I would get implanted in my chest for the treatments. Apparently its way better than getting stuck for IVs everyday. It's sounds horrible to me, but everyone assured me it didn't hurt a bit to have installed. I guess I'll just have a little scar around my heart region.

Anyways, thanks again. I'll keep ya'll posted.

you'd much rather have a port than multiple iv's. a port is placed by interventional radiology, literally takes about 10 minutes. you get a nice amount of sedative (though you wont' be unconscious) and pain medication, and shouldn't feel anything. it's also a large bore, so it can be used for blood draws as well (which are going to be necessary).

over time, veins get blown, and it becomes increasingly difficult to gain access through the veins (long term iv drug users end up sticking themselves in odd places to get high, since major veins become useless). the port sets you up for easy access now, and easy access in the future, since you won't have "blown" veins, or lots of scarring from sticks.

once you have the port, it's like the matrix, in the sense that the nurses and doctors just "plug" in the iv to the port site, and let the meds flow.

testicular cancer's beatable. as you already pointed out, lance armstrong beat it. if i remember correctly, tom green (hosted a show on mtv, dated/married/divorced drew barrymore) also had and beat testicular cancer.

thanks for the response uncle el

Yeah I've been feeling like a pin cusion lately. The CT scans aren't fun either. The contrast smoothie you have to drink tastes like crap and makes me run to the bathroom every five minutes.

It's funny you mentioned the Matrix. My boss said the same thing. LOL

                      "Jack me in!"

Yes testicular cancer is the number one most curable form of cancer. It's still not going to be a fun time getting through it, but I know I'll make it.

You're right about Tom Green. He got it too. I remember seeing the special years ago on MTV.

                      -phatdoughnut-

Yes I want to bank some sperm. I was all set to when they told me I needed the lymph node surgery. But things have changed yet again. So I'm going the chemo route as everyone knows. That still doesn't mean I've steered clear of the sugery. With the surgery there is a big risk they will sever the nerve that controls ejaculation. So I wouldn't be able to nut anymore. That's kind of good thing and a bad thing.

My grandfather just had that last year, the best testicular cancer doctor is out here in Phoenix, he invented little radiation seeds that they implant in your sack and cure the cancer, it's not as intense as chemo and his success rate is really outstanding, my grandfather was a little weak but he's also pushing 80 and he still functioned daily doing his activities. Also his cancer is gone. Ill see if I can find his name for you if you want. Theres nothing wrong with a second opinion when it comes to cancer, you dont want to fool around, it's really good if you caught it early, everyone in my family seems to get cancer.

believe it or not, the manufacturer's of the contrast state that it tastes better than in years past! when it comes down to it, it's hard for it to taste good since it has iodine in it.
