    Speed Up Your Web Browsing!

We all know everything Google touches turns to gold, and now they've introduced a program that will speed up your web browsing!
    http://webaccelerator.google.com/
As soon as I heard of it, I downloaded it right away. Having so much praise for their toolbar, and their maps section is blowing up as well, I got this new doo-hicky without question. So far it's made a considerable difference, cutting the wait time by at least a third (on cable) The program does insert itself into the windows toolbar though it would be nice to be able to hide it since I don't need it there. The program uses about 8-9k of idle memory thus far, which may increase with use, but I don't know that for sure.

It works with Internet Explorer or Firefox (for all you rebels) and it's free!

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

Google has had some issues with spyware... their gmail service has been reported to scan and log email messages (to see what people were talking about, to facilitate searches or some stuff like that). Most web accelerators do that as well, they cache what you do, and send info to a central server. It might speed some things up, but you could be giving away more than you want! Their toolbar is classified as spyware by most of the major spyware detectors... or at least it was last time I had it installed.

Google itself is probably harmless as a company. I have respect for them. However, the more doors you open to your computer, the more access bad people have.

MS anti-spyware assumes it's a risk, but I've never considered it spyware. I've used the toolbar for a while now, and I consider it essential

Hmmmm, well there is some concern over privacy risks. The article can be seen here http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/sec...9197327,00.htm and I have been having some problems with web pages not loading properly HOWEVER I can not attribute them to the accelerator since I have no proof of a connection. I have to remember it is a BETA, and the information gathered during this time will help correct any flaws it may have. For the time being, I'm going to continue using it.

                  ......que?

msn has a seperate browser? MSN=microsoft, IE=microsoft, but it works for firefox so all I can say is give it a shot...

It's been confirmed that Google's Web accelerator has had some problems with privacy, leading to instances of other users information being cached. For some users it meant being logged onto forums as someone else. For the time being Google has suspended further downloads of it. So if you want it, I hope you already downloaded it before. They will resume downloads after these rather significant bugs have been corrected. Of course it was a beta version so this is the stage where bugs are meant to be found and corrected. If you are using it and you are concerned with some of your web data being released, I would recommend you uninstall it. I'm going to continue using it, however if I need to make any secure transactions on the web, I'll turn it off.

Just a heads up, but I still have faith in Google, I'm sure they'll come out ahead in the end.
