Spam Attack!

Sorry about the spam, everyone. I've deleted over 200 threads between yesterday and today, and Jarrett got a few that I missed.

I changed our security settings yesterday, which seems to have stopped any new spammer signups for the moment. Unfortunately, the ones that are in are in... and all I can do is ban them as I see them. I take out any obvious spam accounts that I see online.

I appreciate the PMs from everyone. Rest assured that I'm checking in a few times a day and cleaning everything up. For the time being, just don't click on obvious spam (especially if you're at work... though they don't seem to have figured out how to post pictures, thankfully!)


The new security question requires some googling from anyone not already familiar with the CB7, so that might keep them out for a bit! Hopefully it doesn't deter any legitimate signups.


The good thing is that the beginner forums have caught all the nonsense.

There was a really funny one that had absolutely random text in it, but three pictures of babies posted. I think it was in the beginner image gallery.

Mostly seems to have stopped. Wasn't there already a registration question that needed "cb7" for an answer? I know nothing about how bots work, but holy crap that was crazy how many new accounts were created so fast.

I change the questions periodically. This last one was “what year is your cb?”
I just changed it to “how much horsepower does the f22a6 engine make?”

Maybe it should be "what is the HP rating?", most of them probably don't make that anymore!

Pretty gnarly spam attack. There were some hilarious titles. The first time I hit New Posts and seen like 15 threads with porn related titles I was smh. Like, of course it has to be porn and of course it has to be 15+ threads in a row. Bots are strange. Kinda wild that it's a computer doing it.

I know, right? There are two really deceptive spam bot posts at the end of this thread right now. They quoted the top post of the page, placed a link in the middle of the quoted text, and then posted some random but somewhat believable response, bad grammar of course. They had me fooled as post whorers at first!
