Has an H23V but posts picture of an F20B? Puts it up for sale a day or two before he suddenly finds himself "moving out of state?" Very suspicious.

My thoughts exactly. The lack of motor photos is also suspect. Why go through the trouble of making the H23V work and not swap the transmission.

It also needs significant metal work on the passenger side that's going to need to be cut and welded at a very minimum. I'd probably replace the whole wheel arch / inner fender well.

At $1,500 it's not a terrible deal, but it's not a great deal either. If the car is real and isn't totally sketchy, or stolen, you could probably offer $1,000 and get it for $1,200. Best case you spend $1,500-2,000 to get the rust dealt with properly and blended and you've got a good base to work with, even if it's an F22 under the hood.

Hey guys . Thanks for the responses . So I bought it! . It actually is an h23 VTEC (saw engine code) . And I got it for $1000 . He really is leaving , flight is tomorrow morning lol .

So far what I can tell , it needs the front motor mount (engine jerks when shifting) and it has a big oil leak . I drove it 40 miles home and by the time I got home a cloud of smoke was everywhere from the engine . But it made it safe in one piece .

The car has been sitting for 2-3 months . So it needs some TLC . Small things like driver side doorhandle , driver side window motor need replacing .

I just need a daily from my house to work . My plan is to get it running so it's comfortable . Drive it till the tranny breaks , than convert to 5 speed . I'll post pics soon . I'm gonna clean up the engine bay and see where that leak is coming from .

On my way home it kept randomly jerking to left or right (I'm thinking air in power steering line) . And I believe breaks need to be bled .

It's a 90 ex with h23 VTEC and stock auto transmission. I could only get the car to 70mph so I'm not sure if the swap was done correctly or what . Feels like it was running sluggish . Could've been the old gas because it got better as time passed by . Plus I noticed tires were pretty much flat , that could've caused the sluggishness too .

Thanks guys for all your help ! Glad to be back to the cb7 tuner family

            Welcome back!
Pull the ecu to see what he was using. The h23 vtec is obd2 only, so it requires some creativity. You're going to want to inspect the seller's work very carefully. The price was decent, but that could still be quite a can of worms there! It's interesting to see rust in Florida. I thought that wasn't much of an issue down there.
Also, the pic of the f20b really makes me suspicious. I wonder if you have a Frankenstein under the hood... H23a1 block and h22/f20b head (they're not the same, but close enough). Might explain the oil leak and 70mph top speed...

Always awesome when people come back!

I think Deev might be on to something-

I would definitely inspect that thing inch by inch, not only for the knowledge, but also to ensure that is no iffy wiring etc that might decide to ignite itself in a month.

              Good luck!

thanks for all your feedback guys . unfortunately it couldnt be a cleaner slate to work with but right now i just need a vehicle to get to work and back . im not too worried about the rust , as long as its not leaking water on me im good .

im posting some pics up so you guys can see what im working with . its an h23 vtec with a MP1A transmission(hopefully lsd version) . i want to leave it automatic and my funds are low so i dont want to spend a ton of money into it . maybe $500-1000 at the most . just enough to get me to work and back ( 8 miles away)

from what i can tell the ecu is a p72 from an integra (obd1 ? maybe chipped?) . i just want it to drive decent . so im not sure if to convert to obd1 or leave it obd2 and what exactly i need . ill probably make a post elsewhere to see what i should do . i want to do whatever is easiest.

                random unplugged thingie ? ^^^

thanks for all your help guys

Looks like a half done swap, and these swaps are hard to work the bugs out and get the ECU setup properly and I'm guessing this is why he sold it too or part of the reason. Unplugged part is the EGR, find the plug and plug it back in. May be a chance that the ECU is not programmed for the ERG too. But definitely looks like you have some work ahead of you

haha great! now i remember why i left the cb7 game lol . sucks that i love these cars so much .

do you recommend me changing from obd1 to obd2 and get the correct ecu , or converting engine to obd1 ? or put it back on craigslist and get my $$ back and maybe then some .

EGR is unplugged because from what I remember the P72 doesn't do EGR? Just get an EGR blockoff plate and be done there if that's the case, or you may have to swap to an OBD1 EGR valve if EGR is possible.

You better hope that P72 is chipped, I think that was from a GSR? In any case You'll have to sort through each system as it sounds like that car is a mess! Check basic tuneup items as well.

i guess first things first . find out what the hell was done!

if its a obd1 ecu im ASSUMING the harness is obd1 (going to look at the plug going to distributor later today), which means the conversion from obd2 to obd1 is done ?

Ok I looked at the big pics. That's an OBD2 EGR valve and wouldn't work with OBD1 anyways. Appears to be an OBD1 internal coil distributor as well. Big questions are, is it properly chipped and tuned (likely not judging by the work done). Check basics (plugs, pop cap off to see state of that and the rotor). Wiring looks dodgy, check connections and make sure they are plugged in properly. Check engine light, is it on, and does it pass self test? Should light up in run when engine is off. Check codes if light is on.

okay , i got home kinda late from work and battery is dead so i wont be able to check CEL until tomorrow or sometime this weekend .

what im trying to figure out is what harness the car is using . an obd1 or obd2 .

below is a pic of the plug from the distributor (on top) and engine harness on bottom .

it looks like they removed a pin (i believe its supposed to have 8 pins ) and only has 7 wires going to it .

im thinking if the oil leak is an easy fix , just put a new battery and drive it till the motor blows or tranny does. it drove me to my house fine , so whatever has been done to it works good enough to drive . i really dont want to spend a ton of money into it or go fixing what others have done , just to make matters worse (which 9/10 times happens to me)

If it were me, I'd re-do the swap myself. Convert the engine to OBDI, then get as clean an engine harness as possible from a junkyard and take the usual swap plugs from the H23. If it has everything.

Not a car I would have bought if I weren't prepared to spend a bit making sure it worked right.
