Well I had an........interesting......day, I got up to figure out a starting problem with the car, fixed it without needing to replace a part, ran errands, talked to the slumwinch, got my mom ready for work and out the door, hopped on my bike to go get dinner and on the way I get hit by a car, the lady didn't see me, the person waiting to turn in for me to go had signaled me and the lady turning out of where the man was turning into thought he was signaling her, she clipped my back wheel, I hit my head on the ground when I fell, minimal damage to the bike, still rideable, the lady took me to the ER to get check out and stayed with me, prayed for me to be okay, took me to get my dinner when I got a clean bill of health after the fall, no concussion, they did a cat scan, after taking me to get my dinner, she took me home and waited for me to be inside before leaving.

Yes it was, I was surprised, it's good to see there are still people who take responsibility for their actions.1997 Ford Explorer V-6 AT (what a piece of junk)

fellow cyclist here!
did you get a police report?
a couple notes:
* take the bike to a shop. they may be able to spot damage to it that you may not see.
* get in contact with a lawyer that specializes in cycling cases. i found this guy for florida: http://www.billbonebikelaw.com/
* if you can get a little $ up, invest in a safety vest. i always wear mine. i have seen them very cheap or free on craigslist. i also have SEVERAL lights on my bike. HELMET! please hun!
* i'm especially concerned since you hit your head. please keep an eye on yourself over the next few weeks.Last edited by ontheroad92; 07-09-2016, 02:59 PM.

I bike as well, and can relate to drivers not paying attention, but reporting a person to the police is serious. To me it sounded like an honest mistake that ended well. It could have been very bad, but it wasn't. If it was a case where I came out perfectly fine (do watch how you're feeling for a while, but be honest with yourself about it), I would let the whole thing go. Maybe I just can't stand how everyone in this country feels the need to sue for the most insignificant things. Imagine being in their position. Would you want what in your eyes turned out to be nothing to go up on your record? It's just as much your responsibility, as the one on the more vulnerable bicycle, to pay very close attention to what drivers are doing. When riding in the city, yours is a common enough scenario; look at the drivers eyes and where they're looking, don't expect them to see you just because they've stopped.

a police report doesn't necessarily mean the driver will face any charges. mostly, this is for documentation in case honda lady suffers further injuries. a police report is required should further treatment be necessary either through this woman's insurance or honda lady's car insurance. (yes, in some states and cases, cyclists can file claims through their auto insurance policy) the reason i suggested it is because there may be further injuries down the road, and i would hate to see honda lady up shit creek. i would contact that lawyer about this, wouldn't hurt.
also, honda lady, please write a personal account of exactly what happened as detailed as possible asap. this is for your own records.
ex: i filed a police report with a witness present for an assault case. i chose to not press charges at the time, therefore nothing would show up on that's person's record. HOWEVER, i had that report to start a paper trail, which did assist later on when said psycho decided to be more cray cray.
also, yes, eye contact is VERY important when cycling. i may ride slower and stop more, but it's worth it to me.Last edited by ontheroad92; 07-10-2016, 01:34 PM.
