    Went over to the darkside.......

Picked up a 2016 GMC Acadia this weekend for the wife.

Traded in our 09 CRV with 78k miles.

She wanted something with more room and the recall notice on the airbags for the crv that said they would not have the parts to fix it until the summer kind of pushed us over the edge.

Frost white, 13k miles. No nav or rear entertainment, but the phone covers nav and we have a friend that can setup rear entertainment for half of what the dealership wanted.

Other than that, it has all the modern features youd expect.

Drives pretty good for a vehicle this size and the MPG are a smidge less than the crv.

    SHIT is roomy haha.

Wish we could have afforded the Denali trim.

Ordering weathertech liners and mudflaps for it.

Dealership bought us the rear cargo cover and wheel locks.

Kind of weird having a domestic parked next to my Accord.

We have only had Japanese vehicles in both our families for as long as I can remember haha.

Import domestic they all have their duds I've always had good luck with GMs Chrysler and ford actually more so than Hondas due to people running them into the ground more so than others.

My shops beside a mechanic shop and a fella did a ps pump on one told me you have to losing mounts and pull engine up a bit to do one of them.

      Yea I believe that.

My dad had an old GMC as a tow truck when I was a kid, maybe 7 or 8.

      I loved that truck.

Hopefully have a bit before I have to do a water pump on it. I do know that apparently GMC is on board with the whole "cover the engine bay in plastic so no one knows where anything is".

I thought my Accord was bad lol.

I've heard good things about the Acadia. It's not a bad looking truck, honestly. And something about the GMC brand seems classy (despite the fact that I have NO idea why they exist, as every GMC model has a Chevy alternative!)

Factory nav sucks anyway. I'm sure it's better now than it was years ago, but the factory nav in my 06 CTS-V is awful. I hope to replace it with a good aftermarket unit someday... if I ever get around to it.

Weathertech is a great choice. They make fantastic stuff.

Do you have a screen on the infotainment?

Is there any way to display your phone's apps on the screen?

Adding nav to the Mazda is as easy as purchasing the SD card to enable it. Unfortunately for me, the 2016 models currently don't have a traffic feature due to licensing issues with their new supplier, so it's pointless to have.

Personally I always found the Denali trim to be tacky, but that's just me. It has a way of screaming "we paid more just because!" It's the same thing I see with the F-150 Platinum.

          Congrats on the purchase!

Every GPS I've ever had with traffic features never quite worked right. Granted, I've only had two, and both were Garmin. Still, to me, they never alert me to traffic until it's too late to avoid it!

Ya it is weird that there is an alternative to every model lol.

Ya we weren't to bummed about not having nav. I think we thought that this specific vehicle had rear entertainment which is handy for the little ones but this one didn't and they did not want to throw it in for free(like $2000) lol...so we got them to get us some accessories and we have a guy in Brooklyn(a guy ya know? haha) that does it for half as much.

Yes, we do have a screen for the infotainment....it is touch screen...not sure about getting the phone apps on the screen....the truck has its own set of apps.

Yea I can see that about the trim. I just wanted her to have everything she wanted and I personally loved the dual sunroofs. Other than that, we have leather and the dash trim and doors are stitched so it looks nice and the truck has accent lighting in the cab so really im not sure what you would be getting for another $10k. I guess the nav/rear entertainment/ sunroofs would do it.

              Thanks man!

I created my own slow traffic warning on my Garmin. Driving 60 in a 70 mph zone across I-74 to Indy because high cross winds were pushing my van and trailer all over the road - no other traffic. Garmin starts showing me the yellow (slow traffic) warning. When I selected "Show Traffic on Route", there was only a small yellow arrow right where I was on the road.

Many GM products aren't really all that bad anymore. Most of their stuff is a little on the boring side, IMO... but in terms of small SUVs, they're right there with the competition. It all comes down to look, feel, features, and price. Especially when buying new. 13k miles is at least CLOSE to new! (I hope you got a steal on it, Ralph... because the 2nd generation Acadia is going to be released in the next few weeks. Outgoing new 2016 models, which are 1st gen, will likely be sold at giveaway prices.)

I noticed one thing about American cars... people often treat them as disposable, resulting in used cars that are in poor condition. People expect their Accord or Camry to hold its value, so they take care of it. They don't expect their Malibu to hold any value in a few years, so they don't baby it... and therefore, it's not worth much. Sadly, that results in ALL used Malibus not being worth much, even those that were carefully maintained!
American automakers still aren't 100% on par with the Japanese and Germans in terms of overall quality, but the gap is considerably narrower.
As long as Ralphie maintains this vehicle (and from seeing his past vehicles, I have no doubt that he will), I can't imagine this thing giving the family any trouble whatsoever for years.

Ya I think we did pretty good as far as price. It was previously a rental with Enterprise and If they had not told me that, id have never known. I guess maybe because it only had 13k miles....idk because it is spotless. Not even a spec of paint missing ANYWHERE on the ext. There were a few spots on the leather but when they detailed it they got those out.

We were a little aprehensive about it being a rental but he explained their system of buying rentals as being very selective and only usually selling the best of the best that they have to offer. I don't think this thing was abused at all. Maybe because larger vehicles do not get rented as often

Yea her stock warranties are respectable. bumper to bumper takes her through 2018 and the powertrain is through 2021.

The interior does not seem cheap at all, so I do not expect that to fail. As long as there are no knocks or tranny problems, I believe it will outlast our ownership. I certainly hope so.

Went to her parents in NYC yesterday, I got to drive her back home. I have to say, for such a large vehicle, she is pleasant as all hell to drive. Very responsive steering, smooth and doesn't feel sluggish. It is a V6 but I know sometimes even those feel underpowered with heavier frames.

She loves it so that is all that matters haha.

And by us, it is the #1 mom vehicle for sure. We see them all over and one of the moms at my daughters dance school just got the same one in white but denali so you're right. The van has competition lol.
