So my aunt just got a Sportster yesterday with me. She got her endorsement, took 12 hours of training, and today she got scared and went WOT from stand still. Tore her saddle bag, dented the fuel tank that has a custom paint job, and got dirt all over the place. Yikes. She won't ride it now...

some lady did that 10 years ago at my motorcycle training class and she almost took all of us out. She was in the way back. Needless to say she walked off.

            At least she's ok!

That sounds like what would happen if I got on a bike.

She bruised the shit out of her ego. My uncle is going to get her back on now that she's cooled down. I was lucky enough to not have any issues and after about 4 hours of riding I'm very smooth at just cruising around. I start, stop, and turn at low speed pretty well. The next open class available to me is 7/31... I really hope I can find something sooner. I'm not going to ride in MI without it. And I've fallen in love with bike I just want to ride.

I don't think I know a single motorcycle owner that hasn't dumped their bike at least once. Fortunately, most walked away with minor damage to themselves and their bikes.

If you're new at riding, and just starting off on that monster... be very, very careful (I'm sure that goes without saying!) And no matter how careful you are, or how quick you pick it up, instinct and reflexes that come with experience still won't be on your side just yet... so a sand patch or unexpected pothole could still send you sliding. Be sure to wear proper safety gear, and insure that bike for as much as you can. If you manage to make it a year or two without dumping it, you'll be in the great minority among motorcycle owners that I know (in fact, you may even be alone in that category!)
Also, assume that 100% of the people driving cars that are sharing the road with you have absolutely no awareness of the presence of bikers, and they don't have a clue about your abilities and limitations. Their stupidity might mean a small dent on their car, but it could be pretty freakin' serious for you! (again, I'm sure this is all stuff you've heard a million times before... but again can't hurt.)

That's funny you say that because non og my friends who ride have never dumped there bike and a few of then race sport bikes competitively. I'm extremely cautious with the bike. I haven't gone over 7k and 1/2 throttle and it's still scary fast. I have leather, gloves, and a nice full faced helmet.

Maybe part of it is where we live... New Jersey is not exactly a motorcycle friendly state! Horrible roads, far too many cars, and extremely aggressive drivers.

Good. Glad to hear you have proper gear. I see guys riding around wearing the most idiotic things. In PA, a helmet isn't even required. I see dudes in the summer riding around with no helmet in shorts, tank tops, and chuck taylors. I've even seen a few idiots in flip flops! That's just asking for disfiguring road rash!

I just saw a couple ride by on one bike. Flip flops, t shirt, shorts, bu a helmet. The helmet because it's illegal in WA. I think I look bad ass in my helmet and leathers so ....

You'd probably look badass in a tutu as long as you're riding that bike!

The more I look at it, the more I like it. The Porsche engine makes it more appealing, too.

The zero to 130 on 10 seconds doesn't sound apealling?

I've never dumped my bike. I am almost weary of where I park though, always park as far back in parking spots so dumbasses see it and try to make sure I dont put the kick stand in cracks or black tar snakes.

Oh yea and please don't be the douche bag who parks in the marked off areas next to handicap spots. That shit ticks me off like no other.

I've never done it, but I've come close to kicking over bikes that were parked in those areas!
