    Painting?

Anyone ever try their hands at painting? And I'm not talking about painting a car, I mean like on paper or canvas. I have recently taken a few shots at it, starting with stencils and today messed with my first freehand.

    So, anyone else?

I really like these! We have a place called "Painting with a Twist" here where you can take a class (usually 2-3 hours) to paint a particular picture. They're a lot of fun, but I don't think I'll be quitting my day job to be an artist!

Yea, it has to be a painting I really want to do to fork over the money and take the time to paint. Plus, the classes are getting really crowded now so I don't find them as fun.

"In the silence of your cave, you feel safe
You decorate it with velvet drapes
Outside you see the dark woods
But you don't know there's fields of gold ahead"
            Painting, first attempt.

not finished, got a few things I plan on doing to it.

I always sucked at painting. The best thing I've ever painted was a portrait of Gorbachev.
I'll have to see if I can dig it up to get a picture of it.

My best stuff was done in colored pencil or newspaper:
A freehand copy of the cover of The Maxx #3 in colored pencil

A closeup portrait of Fidel Castro in newspaper (also used as the cover of my band's latest EP)

Those were both done about 20 years ago now... Haven't done much since.

My girlfriend and I often paint pottery. It's a lot of fun and we get to keep them! Its a shop-like store that has a bunch of plain white pottery like plates, vases, mugs, skulls, skullmugs, etc. You pick whatever you want to use as your "canvas" along with some colors. There is a huge selection of brushes, and sponges to help create your masterpiece. After you're done, you pay for it and the place sends off your "creation" to someplace that bakes it which gives it a nice glossy shine. We always take photos side by side and MMS it to all of our friends to see who's is better! Its really a lot of fun. I'll post a pic of some of my creations later.

I look forward to seeing the pottery
